One hundred and seventy persons along the route receive mail. There are 52 mail boxes, about one-third being regulation boxes, the remainder homemade. N.B.: Note the date of August 1900! This quote speaks of a rural free delivery route between Sidney and Tabor. THIS, in spite of the fact the Free Rural Delivery route NO. 1 out of Sidney dates from 1901.....Perhaps, with study, these facts could be "made straight", but I can't do it from the top of my head. "Obituary Record".-- Elizabeth Caroline Thomas was born in Indiana, September 11, 1848. She was married to George Wagner September 12, 1867. Immediately after marriage the young couple moved to Iowa, settling on the farm in Prairie township, Fremont county, which remained their home until death separated them. Friday, August 3, Mr. Wagner went to the house and missing his wife began a search for her, finding her at 11 a.m. in the orchard near the hen house whither she had gone, eevidently, to make some repairs as she had a hammer in one hand and some nails in the other when found. She had been afflicted with what simulated epilepsy, having had three attacks during the past year. It is supposed that she was attached by a fourth stroke at the time of her demise. The funeral was held at the Nishna Valley M. E. church, the pastor, Rev. Graves, conducting the services. The remains were returned to the home and interred in a private cemetery on the farm. Four children had already been bruied there. Three other children, two sons, one of whom is married, and a married daughter, together with the husband mourn the loss of the departed mother and wife. Mrs. Wagner was known far and wide and was universally beloved. The sympathies of the community are with the bereaved family. N.B.: The Wagner Cemetery in Prairie township was located in the southwest quarter of the southeast quarter of section 16 in Prairie township. At least, there was a Wagner Cemetery there during the 1900's up to around 1960, as I remember. Perhaps it no longer exists. It was in the corner of a cornfield.-- W.F.

Fessler, where he had made his home for several months. Death was due to dropsy. Frank Butt, who was about 72 years of age, came to Nebraska City from Sidney about thirty five years ago and for several years was employed by operators of livery barns in this city. He was later employed as a hack driver by Payne & McCallum and when the motor taxi made its advent he drove taxi for several years, later engaging in business for himself. Mr. Butt was a lover of horses, and for several years was employed by Syracuse horsemen and made his home in that town. Before coming to Nebraska City he operated a livery barn at Sidney and for years had the contract as mail carrier between that place and Hamburg and was well known in that section of Fremont county.
