    3. KArla, The City Cemetery or Jackson Park was closed shortly after the cholera epidemic. It is true that the bodies were moved or som of them to Linwood. If the family of the person buried had the money the body was moved. If no one paid to move the body, the city paid and the bodies were placed in the potters field at the cemetery. their is still the rumors that bodies are still there as in the third street cemetery also. The cemetery was not moved because of water problems it was moved because the city was growing and the cemetery sexton had placed bodies outside of the designated boundries. In the Globe Journal, they had an article about the building of St Patricks Church and finding graves when they were digging for the church foundation. >From: "Karla VF Staudt" <staudt@cptelco.net> >Reply-To: IADUBUQU-L@rootsweb.com >To: IADUBUQU-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [IA..Dubuque] Re: Jackson Park Cemetery >Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2002 09:45:12 -0500 > >RE> For anyone interested, a little tidbit: Jackson Park previously was a >city > > cemetery.
