There are records at St. Rafaels from some of the priests who traveled to the smaller towns and that's where I found the birth records for my G-Grandfathers 1st and 3rd child born in Iowa but for some reason there wasn't a record for the birth of the second child, Johann Oswald. I've been searching for churches North of Dubuque that might have been around in the 1840's. It's interesting that the church became St. Mathias as Mathias Oswald was my G-Grandfathers name. Thanks to those on Dubuque list and to your informative answer, I now have a new lead for a church I'd not heard about before. Betty
