Hello, I am new to this board. I am researching the McGovern surname in Iowa. I have located the family in 1880 in Monona, Clayton Co. IA. In 1900, I have a McGovern family that has moved to Dubuque Co., Prarie Creek Twp. They are: Thomas 48 Mary (nee Geraghty,Garrity?) 48 Thomas 22 Annie 20 Mary 17 Catherine 14 Rosie 12 Ellen 10 Maggie 9 Margaret 6 Neighbors names as per census: Sullivan, Connelly, Duggan, O'Brien, McCarthy I think the church would have been? Holy Family? The oldest son, Thomas became a Monk at the New Melleray Abbey, where he died in 1911 of TB Thomas' brothers names: Patrick and James, and a sister Mary- 2 years younger than him are all that we know of.
