    1. [Dub'que] Dubuque marriage records lookups
    2. Tom Krakow
    3. Hi group, Until November 14, I have access to the Dubuque marriage records Volumes A, 1 and 2, covering the years 1835-1865. I borrowed the film from the LDS folks - #1035386. Many of these records are indexed on the Dubuque GENWEB pages. I am offering to do lookups for folks in the these records. In order to make this manageable, let's limit the requests to two marriages per person. Your chance of success will be greatly increased by giving as much specific information as possible. For example, a request for all Schmidt marriages between 1840 and 1860, will be ignored. A request for a marriage of John Schmidt and Amelia Englehart about 1855 is perfect. I have no idea of how complete the records are or how accurate. Tom in Chapel Hill ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 1. Re: [Dub'que] Church in Peosta
    2. Thanks for your information on Holy Family Church. I was given the name of this church by another person on the Dubuque Gen Web site. I've been corresponding with Rev Otting in trying to find the marriage of my G Grandmother but he couldn't find anything in the Dubuque records for 1856 and she lived in Lore so I was pursuing churches in that area. I wasn't sure if I should write to the church but now I will write Rev Otting one more time. Betty

    2. Check with Father Otting who is in charge of the archives at the Archdiocese of Dubuque. It has not been used as a parish church for several years and the masses that are said there are said by the brothers of New Melleray Abby.

    1. [Dub'que] CW Pension records Question
    2. Ellen Elliott
    3. My great grandmother Katarina (etc on spellings) HANSEN SEEMON THEIS received a pension. We believe it was for her first husband Peter SEEMON. She married husband #2 Theodore THEIS May 1 1862 in Dubuque IA. SEEMON is the only way I have seen the name spelled in Iowa records, but who knows.... I don't know where he was born. I don't know where he died. I don't know where they were married. I don't know what branch Peter served or even if he served (only verbal history about the pension) Their first child was born either in Hannibal ILLINOIS (not MO) or in ALABAMA. She had a brother Michel HANSEN living in Mobile around that time. For all I know Peter could have served on the southern side. What are my chances? Do I use an NARA order for Federal Pension Application? Any suggestions? Thanks. Ellen

    1. [Dub'que] Q: want death cert, but don't know exact year of death. What to do?
    2. Ellen Elliott
    3. I want to write to IA Vital Records and request my gg grandmother Josphina VOGEL's death cert but do not know exactly when she died. She was alive when her husband, Joseph VOGEL died in July 1893. She was born around 1818 so I doubt she lasted much longer. Found both in 1885 IA State Dubuque CO census and neither in 1895 census. (did find 2 of her sons in 1895 - she wasn't living with either of them) Any suggestions? Thanks. Ellen

    1. [Dub'que] KRAKOW, KEMLER, WALLER, WENDT, WILDHABER, MGGENBURG
    2. Tom Krakow
    3. Hello Dubuque list, I am new to the list. The names of the families I am researching in Dubuque County are: KRAKOW, KEMLER, WALLER, WENDT, WILDHABER, and MÜGGENBURG. Most of these folks were in Dubuque well before the Civil War. My specific questions of the day: what became of the death records in Dubuque County? It appears from the LDS catalog that the death records from around 1917-around 1941 are missing. What gives? Were they destroyed? Also, does anyone know how complete the obituary index is at the Dubuque Carnegie Library? 1. Re: [Dub'que] Court house records
    2. Jean, That's the first I've heard of a form. Lynda gave the url for the Dubuque page and it has a lot of information. So far I haven't had to use DesMoines for any records. I looked up records myself a few years ago when I visited and it is time comsuming so $10.00 is a reasonable fee I think. Thanks so much for your information. Betty

    1. Re: [Dub'que] Court house records
    2. IT was the last I heard (1-2 yrs. ago, but they require submission of a specific form (at least for Death Records.) If anyone knows where to get blanks of these forms without waiting 6-8 weeks for them to send one, I would like to know. I know there is a website, but can't remember which one.

    3. FYI - About a year ago, I called the Recorder's office to verify the cost. Spoke to 2 people who differed on the amount. I sent my money using the greater cost quoted just to be sure, only to have the money returned by the woman who heads the department who stated, in no uncertain terms, I needed to go to Des Moines for the info. I have since used an excellent local researcher who got me a copy of a will. I put on hold the birth, etc. records. good luck and let us know if you are successful please.
