Hi, I'm new to the list so forgive me if I'm asking something that is common knowledge... I just found my ggg grandfather in the 1856 Census, and there are 'x's under the columns headed "ALI" and "MIL".... what do those two headings mean? Also, why would a landowner be listed as 'missing'? Wouldn't he want to collect rent or make sure his property is well taken care of? Thanks for anyones help, Julie Guiles JGuiles101@aol.com
