Born Jan. 29, 1904, near Kingston, he was the son of David and Martha*Thompson Mehaffy. He married Gertrude Lyons, Feb. 28, 1924, Burlington, Iowa He had been employed as a machinist with the C.B. & Q. Railroad shops, West Burlington,before retiring. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, Burlington. Survivin are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Jean Lucas, West Burlington, Mrs. Sandy Richard, Streamwood, Ill., and Meredith Schroder, New London; two sons, Melvin Mehaffy, Danville, and Rodney Mehaffy, Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Mrs. Thryza Atherton, Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Jennie Hocke, Cedar Rapids; 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening at Elliot Chapel, New London. The service for Mr. Mehaffy will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Elliot Chapel, New London, with the Rev. Duane Kavins, officiating. Burial will be in Long Creek cemetery, near Danville. A memorial has been established for Cancer Research. * error in mother's name, should read Talitha Thompson.
