I am not related to Mr. Hutchcroft and have no further information about him. Richard C. Hutchcroft, 76, of Mediapolis, died Wednesday, Nov 1, 2000 near the Hawkeye-Dolbee Landing on the Mississippi River. The son of Ray and Evelyn Campbell Hutchcroft, he was born Oct 1, 1924, at Burlington. On Oct 20, 1946, he married Elaine Marjorie Thye at Burlington. He was a 1942 graduate of the Mediapolis High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a John Deere implement dealer and operated Ziebart Rustproofing in Burlington. He also was a retired farmer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mediapolis, the Mediapolis American Legion, and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and was an avid follower of the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, and his grandchildren's activities. Survivors include his wife of Mediapolis, one daughter, Linda Klindt of Salem, Iowa; two sons, Robert Hutchcroft of Steamboat Rock, Iowa and William Hutchcroft of Washington D.C., five grandchildren, Amy, Josh and Erin Klindt and Randy and Mindy Hutchcroft; and one sister, Jane Dickey of Lone Tree, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held at 11 am Saturday, Nov 4, at the First United Methodist Church of Mediapolis with the Rev. John Gaulke officiating. Music was provided by Korkee Carruthers, organist. Honorary pallbearers were Denny Bowers, Steve Baker, Charlie Poisel, Robert Sharer, Steve Coates, Frank Umthun, Jim Kelly, Wayne Shipman and Henry Thie. Flag presentation followed the service by the Mediapolis American Legion. Following the funeral service, the body was cremated with no formal interment planned at this time. Visitation was Friday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis where the family met with friends in the evening. In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorials for the Mediapolis Library, the Mediapolis United Methodist Church and Ducks Unlimited.
