Good afternoon all, I apologize for the prior 2 empty messages sent to the list. I've have a little email trouble the last 24 hours. Hope to get it all straightened out soon! The State Association For The Preservation Of Iowa Cemeteries has a new web site up: http://sapic.org You'll find the associations mission, definition of a pioneer cemetery, laws protecting pioneer cemeteries, current projects, membership, interesting pictures and good links. The Des Moines County Commission will soon continue work at Carter Cemetery in Danville Twp and Porter Cemetery in Union Township. Cemeteries are a part of our national, state, local and family heritage. For genealogists they can confirm information from other sources, add information and sometimes are the only record left of our ancestors. The ravages of time, vegetative growth, land-use and vandalism take their toll on gravesites. I commend the formation of this commission and the hard work of the people who volunteer to preserve these cemeteries. The following site is also full of helpful links: http://www.potifos.com/cemeteries.html This free service tries to link people wanting pictures of their ancestors headstones with people willing to go out there and take the pictures. http://headstonehunter.com I'll keep you posted!
