Good morning! Yes, Carter Cemetery is in Danville Township, Des Moines County. In fact, the Des Moines County chapter of the SAPIC (State Association for the Preservation of Iowa Cemeteries) is scheduled to finish their preservation project on that cemetery this summer. At present they are waiting for state funds before they can precede (you know how that goes!) You can visit the SAPIC web site at the following link: http://sapic.org The SAPIC has identified 48 pioneer cemeteries in Des Moines Co. and each has been evaluated as to its preservation needs. Time really takes its toll on headstones and many cemeteries are simply overgrown with grass, bushes and trees. Maybe I'll volunteer next year when I go up to Burlington for a working vacation (and to visit Granny).
