Ia Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/DesMoines/69 Surname: BURRELL, ROWE, SCHRAMM ------------------------- In the city of Burlington about 1835 to maybe 1860 there was a "pioneer outfitting" store supposedly owned by BURRELL who later sold to SCHRAMM'S. This Burrell wanted to go west, so perhaps it was around the gold rush days. Understand there were many Burrell family members in the area, and they were also related to the ROWE families. Any information would be appreciated and have much to share also. Thank you. Lee Johnson: leela826@aol.com

Posted on: Des Moines Co. Ia Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ia/DesMoines/67 Surname: Larkins, Dowal ------------------------- I am trying to find out any informaion on Elbert Larkins, when his family came to the United States. He lived in Des Moines County in Iowa in the 1800's. His wife was Seldna Dowal. They first appeared in Burlington Iowa in the 1836 census. They had two children, Harriet and Levi. The last time Elbert showed up in the records at the library or court house was in 1876. He signed for his son Levi to marry a girl named Annie Behman. We cannot find a death certificate or any other records to prove death or if he moved. We dont know who his parents were or when they migrated to the United States. If any one has any ideas what we should do next to further our search, it would be greatly appreciated. Any Answers could be emailed to sdl@gallatinriver.net. Thank You Sheila D Larkins

Ia Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/DesMoinesObits/5 Surname: Adey, Fergison, Martin, Bryan ------------------------- Wapello Republican Nov 16, 1950 GRANDVIEW YOUTH FACES CHARGES AS RESULT OF TRAFFIC FATALITIES (Much of this article is unreadable, all of the first several paragraphs). Readable parts include: which crashed head on, . a two day investigation by Louisa county Sheriff Robt R. Lewis and County Attorney ... The investigation found that the south bound car said to have been driven by Schrader, was on the wrong side of the road in a no passing zone at the time of the accident. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kemp of Grandview were wittnesses to the crach. Authorities are continuing the investigation. With Adey were his wife, Mrs. alma Adey, 40, and their daughter, Marilyn 13, both of whom are also in Hershey hospital with fractures and other severe injuries. Both are considered improved, but still in serious condition, it is reported. The Adey family in a 1950 Pontiac, was enroute to Iowa City to visit a relative in a hospital there when Courtney and Schrader were enroute to Wapello to call for dates. The condition of both vehicles following the accident gives mute evidence of the terrific impact with which they met. It is termed a miracle that any of the occupants of either car emerged alive. Killed Instantly It is believed that Courtney and Adey were instantly killed. Dr. A.A. Eggleston of Burlington, who happened along shortly after the tragedy administered first aid and pronounced both men dead. Clarence Dudley Adey was born at Hocking July 15, 1909, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Adey. He married Alma Fergison at Centerville on June 22, 1931. He served two years in the U.S. Navy moving to Burlington about three years ago to serve as assistant in the Burlington social security office. I am searching for the birth date of: Earnest Harry Leedom - about 1894 >From SS records, I have found that his brother Roy Leedom was born in Des Moines December 16, 1897. "Ancestry's Red Book" tells me that birth records were kept beginning in 1880. Would anyone on this list have access to these records. If I knew the parents of Roy, I would have the parents of Earnest. Thank you for reading my note. Patricia
Hi, I'm new to the list so forgive me if I'm asking something that is common knowledge... I just found my ggg grandfather in the 1856 Census, and there are 'x's under the columns headed "ALI" and "MIL".... what do those two headings mean? Also, why would a landowner be listed as 'missing'? Wouldn't he want to collect rent or make sure his property is well taken care of? Thanks for anyones help, Julie Guiles JGuiles101@aol.com

I know there was, and or is, a Centerville town in the Iowa counties of Appanoose and Boone, however can anyone give me information about the one in Des Moines county? The only way I found it, as it is not on any maps, was through the IA Genweb Project page. I am curious as to whether it was part of a larger town, the years it existed and etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Carolyn Murphy
