Posted on: Des Moines County Iowa Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/DesMoines/90 Surname: Iles, Southard, Willcox ------------------------- The indicated URL will link you to a photo record of all current tombstones (approx. 700) in the Jagger Cemetery, near Danville in Des Moines Co., IA. Albums are organized alphabetically by surname. Just click on the appropriate album name and then look for the surname of interest, again they are arrange alphabetically. The title of a photo would be similar to Fetterman - 0278w. In this example Fetterman is the surname, for married women it would typically be her married name. The 0278 is a somewhat arbitrary sequential number and the w is the general section of the cemetery. In most cases if the numbers are close to each other (and in the same section), e.g. 0278w, 0279w, 0280w etc. it is an indication that the tombstones are adjacent to each other. The w represent the west end of the cemetery which is the oldest section. You will also find pictures with a c for the central portion and a e for the east end. In general the most recent tombstones are in the east section and get older as you move west. For some of the more difficult to read tombstones additional information has been provided if it could be made out. To view the picture better, double click on the picture of interest for a larger image. If you would like to copy the picture to your computer (jpg format) just right click on the enlarged image and save to your computer as desired. If you have information or a comment about any of this pictures please post a note by using the add comment option under Guestbook on the left side of the screen. Make sure to post the comment to the appropriate phote by using the pull down menu on the comment input screen. Posted on: Queries Only
Des Moines County Iowa Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ia/DesMoines/88 Surname: TRACY ------------------------- Recently at an antique shop, I purchased a three photographs of people in the Tracy family, whose pictures were all taken by "Monfort and Hill's New Art Gallery, Sweny's New Block, 27 & 29 Third St., Burlington (Des Moines Co.), Iowa". I enjoy buying lovely old pictures like these in antique shops and locating descendants/family members and re-uniting the pictures with people who will treasure them. The adult pictured is "Samuel K. Tracy - 1867", and shows a dark haired man with a moustache who is about 25-30 age range. That picture is 4" x 2-1/2". The pictures of children are: One showing "Antoniette J. Tracy - aged 9 months" and this was taken about 1878-1880. This shows a cute little girl by herself and is also 4" x 2-1/2". The other is 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" and is of three children: Florence V. Tracy, Antoniette J. Tracy and Hayden K. Tracy - and this was "taken May 1881". The boy is about 8, and the girls about 3 and 6. The pictures are all in excellent condition, considering their ages. There is a strong resemblance between Mr. Tracy and the children, and this surely could be their father. If this is your family, please do NOT post here, but Email me directly and I will send you my mailing address and details.

Posted on: Queries Only
Des Moines County Iowa Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ia/DesMoines/86 Surname: Layman ------------------------- I recently purchased at an antique shop a photograph of a young lady from Des Moines Co., IA. I enjoy buying lovely old pictures like these in antique shops and locating descendants/family members so that I can re-unite the pictures, for only my costs, with people who will treasure them. The picture is 4-1/4" x 5-1/2", and on the back is handwritten only: "Jennie K. Layman". The picture is in excellent condition, and was taken by Ideal Portrait Co., Des Moines, Iowa in what I estimate to be about 1890. I estimate her to be about 20-25 yrs. old, and she has short dark hair and is carrying flowers close to her chest; in fact, this could be a wedding picture. If this is your family, please do NOT post here, but Email me directly and I will send you my mailing address and details.

I certainly agree, Tina. However, the offensive URL had nothing to do with genealogy and was strictly a commercial travel site.
