Hello, I am new to Iowa research. I recently found the answer to a long-time genealogical block wall. A great aunt married a man named John Herman Schulz b.1/24/1908. His 1994 obituary (he died in Arizona) says he was born in Burlington Iowa and was survived by two sisters: Viola Schulz OLSON and Lena Schulz NOTZKE. Can anyone suggest possible information sites for Burlington or Des Moines County? All suggestions for genealogical research for that area would be appreciated. I am seeking his parents names as well. Coleen Alaska
I am searching for anyone who has John Herman Schulz (born about 1906) in their records. According to his 1994 obituary, he was born in Burlington, Iowa. Thank you. Coleen
I'm sorry, I don't remember if I replied to your letter or not. My program doesn't indicate if I did. Yes there are a lot of Haight's from Des Moines Co. We have quite a list going of those who descend from Cornelius Haight. He had 15 children. I descend from his brother Philip who's daughter came to Des Moines Co with her husband John Curtis Nott. Our line came from Dutchess Co. NY by way of OH, IL to IA. They were amoung the first settlers in Des Moines Co arriving sometime in the late 1840's. Cornelius and Philip were the children of Aaron and Jemima Waters Haight. We take their lineage back to the immigrant Simon Hoyt. I don't recall an Emitt. Do you know who his parents are or Grandparents? Thanks Marilyn Salem, OR On Wed, 11 Oct 2000 22:06:29 -0700 shirley wolf houston <wolf@syix.com> writes: > Posted on: Des Moines Co. Thanks for all of your help! I am in the Kansas City, MO area and live near the Mid-Continent Genealogy library. I will write to the Des Moines Co. Gen. Soc. soon. Stacey Dietiker
Naturalization records do exist for D.M. County. The kind and helpful people at the Des Moines Historical Society in Burlington found my ggg grandfather's papers filed with the county court and recorded Oct. 7, 1848. Their address is: Genealogical Society, Inc. P.O. Box 493 Burlington, IA 52601 Their e-mail is: dmcgs@yahoo.com What metro area are you near? Liz Shreve in Idaho
Naturalization records do exist for that period, but they contain very little useful information. The 1856 naturalization for my ancestor contains only the date, his name and his former country of allegience. I located it through the Salt Lake Family History Library in the Des Moines County court records. If there are more detailed application records, I haven't found them yet. > Hi - Does anyone know if naturalization records for Des Moines County exist?
Don, thank you for your interest. At this point our trustees prefer for our website to stand alone, with the links as we have them, unrelated to any genealogy site, as our primary purpose is really church related research. We wish to maintain control over our database of members names, which is maintained in our computers (with backups) and is constantly being updated, corrected, etc., but we will be glad to try to assist anyone who has ancestors in our churches or thinks they might have. Thanks again. Hi Edie. In the Belfast area, Ireland Genuki has very good coverage. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/irl/ From their main site, you can visit every county they have in Northern Ireland, UK too. Hi Robert. Since your database is well established with copyrights in place, can we just link to your site from the DesMoines County website?
