    2. Tina- I would really appreciate if you could look for a couple of names for me in the yearbook that you have. The last names are Hawksworth, Schaefer, Jackson and Armstrong. If there are any students by those last names I would love to know. I lose most of these families by the 1920 census, and since that is the last one available- I am not sure if they were still there. Thank you very, very much for you help. Cindy Wilson

    3. To Tina: I noted your request for a look-up in the Burlington H.S. yearbook. You inquired about the surname "Armstrong." I have been trying to find something about a Clara B. Armstrong who married Joseph L. Tell (or Telle) on 21 Jan 1891 in Burlington, IA. Joseph was a brother of my great-grandfather, William Tell (yes, that was his name), son of Joseph Leon Tell(e) of Alsace, France. The family lived in Burlington from 1870 to the early 1900s. But I don't know what happened to Joseph, Jr. and Clara Armstrong. Any connection to your Armstrong family do you think? 3. Hello Listers, I recently acquired a 1929 Burlington High School yearbook. None of my relations are included, but it has certainly been fun going through it! There are many pictures, including seniors as babies! in this book. Next week I will post information from this book to the list with the subject "1929 Burlington High School Yearbook". If you do not have an interest, just delete without reading. If you would like more information about a person, send me an email inquiry and I'll look. I can make good quality photocopies at Kinkos if something turns up. I will post students, faculty and staff and advertisers. At some point in the future, this information will be included in the Des Moines County US Genweb page either directly or as a link - courtesy of Mr. Don Kelly :o) and eventually the yearbook will be donated to the Des Moines County Genealogical Society at the Burlington Public Library. Good Luck! Tina McCain-McGarry List Administrator

    3. Thanks Tina, I am sure that he Johann George Haug died in 1888 listed as John G. Haug born 1854 died 1888 buried in the Aspen Grove Cemetery. I am going to send away for his death cert. to make sure about the birthdate (which I think is wrong according to the 1880 and the wonderful information you sent me about the 1885 census where he is listed as 41. I am hoping that the death cert will help me find out who his father and mother were I'm sure they stayed in Germany. I won't have a chance to get to the LDS church until next week. If you find anything that would be great, you have been so much help with the Haug that changed his name about every five years from George to Johann to John G. No wonder this Haug has given me trouble. Thanks again Lisa

    3. Thanks Charliece, I didn't think to look in the 1885 census. I did do the 1880 census and Johann was listed as George age 36, he was not listed in the 1900 census. I guessed he had died between 1886 when his last child was born John and 1900. I just received cemetery records a copy of the Haugs that are buried in the Aspen Gorve Cemetery and it had John G. born 1854 (I feel that 1854 is wrong, now I am sure it is wrong if he is listed in 1880 as 36 and 1885 listed as 41unless he lied about his age) died 1888 buried next to Anna born 1854 died 1939. I knew this was my George, but just kept looking at the name over and over, all this time I was looking for George not John or Johann and I am sure that these are the only Haugs in Burlington Iowa around 1880's to 1920's. This puts it in Black and White for me. Thanks again. ----- Original Message ----- From: Charliece Hillery <charliece@usa.net> To: <IADESMOI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 26, 2001 7:16 AM Subject: [IADESMOI] Haug Family > I have been collecting information on my Hug family in Burlington, and > in the process, found material on Haug, Hugg, Huck etc. Following is a > transcript of the 1885 Iowa census for your family: > > 1885 Burlington 1st Ward, Des Moines, Iowa (FHL 1,021,463) p43 > Name/Age/Sex/Marital/Birthplace > Haug, Johann 41 m m Germany > " , Anna 29 f m " > " , Minnie 10 f s DMco > " , Willie 8 m s " > " , Mary 5 f s " > " , Lizzie 3 f s " > > [FHL 1,021,463 is the call number for the film at the Family History > Library in Salt Lake.] > > Good luck on your search. > Charliece Hillery > > > ==== IADESMOI Mailing List ==== > "Let our posterity know that we, their ancestors . . . amid all trials and temptations, were men of integrity. > ~ Alexander Crummel (1819-1898), religous leader > > > ============================== > Visit Ancestry's Library - The best collection of family history > learning and how-to articles on the Internet. > http://www.ancestry.com/learn/library >

    3. Bob and Sue, I want to thank you for the information. I did contact the Des Moines Co. Genealogical Soc. and they sent me a copy of the Haugs that I was looking for that are buried at the Aspen Grove Cemetery. On my husbands side they had John G. Haug born 1854 died Apr. 10, 1888 buried next to Anna A. born 1854 died 1939. They added a note that they had no information on George Haug (he is listed in the 1880 census of Burlington as George born 1844) but I do beleive that this John G. Haug is my George, George was married to a Anna born the same year and there are no other Haugs in the census none in 1870 and in 1880 George and family 1900 Anna listed with children. So I can now send away for his death cert if there is one in 1888. Also listed was his son William A. Haug born 1877 died Aug 30, 1915 next to him is his wife Selma Augusta Johnson, Haug, Behun, Vaughn, that went on to married two other guys and ends up being buried next to him she died in 1960 above her I think is her mother and father Emma Johnson w/August, 24 July 1853 - 15 May 1924. Does w/August mean that they are both buried together or what? But I do think this is her mother and father. What great news. I would like to share the names on the pages that were send to me (two of them) but not sure where to post it. Some of the names were Smith, Wollmer, Brink, Loose, Lubicek, Wachutka, Stodt, Gerdes, Coats, Talbert, Schupick, Leasch, Bell, Walker, Waibel, Dear, Bone, Seitz, Runge, Bartlett, Anderson, Mercer, Jones, Coolbaugh, Marten, Schmidt, Duerr, Seitz, Tee. All I know about this John George Haug is he was born in Wurttemburg, Germany and on the census said that he was working at a Lumber mill and his wife Anna was born in Hanover, Germany. Once I get the death cert maybe it will answer why they were the only Haugs in Burlington. Thanks again for your help. I have looked at the 1870 census of Burlington, Iowa and there are no Haugs listed. On the 1880 census there is George Haug born 1844 Wurttemberg, Germany lumberjack? married to Anna born 1855 Hanover, Germany their children listed in 1880---Anna born 1880, William A. born 1877, Minnie born 1874, John born 1886. So there is no 1890 census so I went to the 1900 census. George is not listed Anna is and the census said that she came to US in 1872. I have the death cert of William A. who died in 1915 and is buried at Aspen Grove Cemterey. William A. Haug's wife Selma Augusta Johnson goes on the marry a Behen she is listed in the 1920 census of Burlington then she married a Vaughn and she died in 1960 and buried at the Aspen Grove Cemetery. But to find out about George and get a death cert. I have to know when he died (I know by his last child that he died between 1886 and 1900, that i! > s ! > fourteen years and the Iowa Department of Public Health wants the $10.00 for every year. That would be $140.00 for them to search their records. I do beleive that he is buried at the Aspen Grove Cemetery. I know by the census data that this family lived by the Aspen Grove Cemetery. I would love to see someone do a listing of the Aspen Grove Cemetery. Or if anyone know what happened to the Haugs. I would be willing to submit what research I have done on Burlington Iowa. I have some other names from Census that I copied. If we all had a place to submit anything that we have on Burlington maybe we could help each other.
