    1. Leon Visit
    2. Frank Durham
    3. A few weeks ago I was able to visit Leon for the second time in 3 years. My great grandmother Ida Walton grew up there and married my great grandfather Oliver Durham there. They along with Oliver's brother Edgar and his new bride also from the area Nancy Jane McGaffick, and David McCutchan and his wife Fanny (Bassett) McCutchan moved about 1871-72 together to Jewell County Kansas and built homesteads close together. Descendants of these three families met in near by Beloit Kansas for a reunion May 28th 2005. 51 attended with other relatives from parts of the Durham family. While I was in Leon I met with some of my Chastain family relatives and learned more about the Walton family. I also got to meet and visit Mary McDaniel the 104 year old senior member of the Walton family. It was really neat to meet her and her family. She remembered visiting when a young teenager my Great grandparents in Kansas. I also got to visit the Drug store and meet Dr. Miller and see her great collection of old pharmacy keep sakes. If you are ever in Leon don't miss that, she has collected a lot of interesting things from the old days that the Dr. and pharmacies used in the area. It was a fun visit and we spent 2 days there visiting the cemeteries and visiting many relatives, most for the first time. The family members still in the area include descendants of the Oney family, Keith Hinds. It was funny to see how small the world can be. His daughter is a writer for my home town newspaper here in Twin Falls Idaho. She got married here a few days ago. Thanks to the family and friends of Leon it is a great place to visit always very friendly! Frank Durham
