found in grandmother West's scrapbook Barry West Obituary Brentha Eleanor Vaughan, the only daughter of Angeline and Edwin Baughan, was born in Wyalusing, Pa., September 21, 1864, and departed this life on March 12, 1943, at the age of 78 years, five months and nineteen days. In early childhood Brentha Vaughan moved with her parents to Keokuk, Iowa. It was here that her father died when she was only six years of age. Her mother made her home with her in Des Moines and Leon until her passing in 1916. An only brother died in early life. In 1895 Miss Vaughan became the wife of Andrew J. Smyth and moved with him to Des Moines, Iowa, shere she lived until 1907. To this union was born one son, Edwin Vaughan Smyth. The husband and father passed away in 1904 after a wedded life of only nine years. Three years later, in 1907, Mrs. Smyth was united in marriage to Aleander G. George and came to Leon where she spent the remainder of her life on a farm one mile east of town. To this second union one daughter, ruth, was born. Mrs. George was a charter member of the Leon Chapter of the D. A. R. She had been a member of the Eastern Star for 37 years, first becoming a merber in Des Moines and later transferring her membership to Chapter 352 in Leon. She united with the Presbyterian church of Leon on January 5, 1908 and remained a loyal member until her death. She was active in all of its work as long as her health permitted. Besides her husband, Mrs. George is survived by her son, Edwin Vaughan Smyth of the U. S. Navy, who is now stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois, the daughter, Ruth, of Leon, and other relatives and friends. She was a very patriotic woman who loved her home and her country, a loving wife and mother who forgot herself in her interests of others. She will be sadly missed by her many friends. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at the Stewart Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. L. L. Spalding, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Burial was in the Leon cemetery. Cards of Thanks We wish to express our most sincere thanks and appreciation to many friends and neighbors for their kindness shown us at the death of our loved one and during her illness, and for the beautiful flowers.
