We are hoping for a speedy recover as Roscoe has been poorly for some time. Friday evening his daughter, Beverly was rushed to the Decatur County hospital, where she was operated upon at 10:30 p. m. She is getting along as will as could be expected. We hope both will be home soon. Mrs. Myrtie Tilas and sons, of Chicago are here visiting her father, Fred Fry and other relatives and friends. The Van Wert O.D.O met with Corrine Eischen Friday afternoon, July 6th. After the business meeting the time was spent visiting followed by refrershments of fruit salad, Angel food cake and iced tea with patriotic decorations. Mrs. Kelley was unable to attend because of the serious sickness of her granddaughter, Myrna Siefkas. a neighbor, Mrs. Porter was a visitor. Mr. and Mrs. E.N. Hampton, of Davenport, spent the week before the Fourth in the home of Mrs. Clara Kelley. They also visited with other relatives and friends in Van Wert and Leon. The were several from Van Wert who attended the all day meeting at Decatur, July 8. Mrs. al Haller and Mrs. Rose Coulson called on Mrs. Maggie Bulkeley last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Woods were visiting their son Pearl in Leon Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Ramsey were visiting their daughter and family Thursday and their grandson returned home with them. The Kings daughter held their regular meeting in the church basement Wednesday afternoon. Ruth Simmerman had the devotional. Hattie Boatman, Selma Thompson were the refreshment committee and served ice cream cookies and coffee. A good number was present. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Gorden and family visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Oliver. Miss Clara Smith, of Garden Grove is visiting at the Elmer Houck home. Elmer Houck of the army who has been overseas in home on a thirty day furlough. Earl Clark of the Navy, is home visiting his family and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Irving have returned home after spending a week in the Will Pelsor home, helping with the work while Mrs. Pelsor was in the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Charley Osenbaugh called in the Paul Heckathorn home Tuesday. Mrs. Myrtie Tilas and son spent Thursday evening in the E. Wilson home. Rev. and Mrs. Harten, the new M.E. minister, moved here last Thursday. We are glad to welcome them to Van Wert. Mrs. Noal Foland called in the Ed Woods home Saturday. Annabell and Linday Stansell, of Osceola, visited from Thursday until Saturday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Saylor and family. We extend our sympathy to the Henry Siefkas family and Mrs. Clara Kelley, in the loss of their daughter and granddaughter, Myrna, who passed away July 7, at a hospital in Osceola, after a very short illness. Merlyn and Clifford Schmidt, sons of Mrs. Callie Schmidt, sons of Mrs. Callie Schmidt, are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Johnson and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Harry DeVore called on Mr. and Mrs. Clair DeVore of Osceola July 4th. Roy Fry and Hoyle Anderson are home on furloughs for a few days. Duane and Ronald Haller have been visiting their grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Al Haller before they leave for California. Mrs. Wanda Grim has been helping Mrs. Edith Critchfield paper this week. Mrs. Ella Wick and Mrs. Edith Heckathorn were Leon callers Friday. Donald Wilson, of Galven, Ill. has been here visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Woods and his grandfather, Harry Willson. Mrs. Olga Glasscock, Mrs. Rex Cisco, and Mrs. Clair Githens were dinner guests in the Charley Mallat home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Saddoris and son spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Wilson. Mrs. Lenna McConnell, Mrs. Marsha Thompson were in Des Moines Friday. Mrs. Rose Coulson went to Des Moines Tuesday to visit her Brother Charley Woods and Family, returning Friday evening. Mrs. Al Haller spent Saturday afternoon with Mrs. Mamie Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. E. Wilson were Osceola callers Wednesday. Bert West spent last week in Des Moines visiting at the Herman Tiedje home. Mrs. Bertha Bradshaw was a dinner guest in the Roscoe Wilson home Tuesday. Herman Eruitt and family of Des MOines are here visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs George Fry and other relatives and friends. Mrs. Betty Reed took Mrs. Georgia Tomkins to Leon Monday. Several from here attended the revival meeting at Osceola at the Church of Christ and report they enjoyed it very much. Henry Houck arrived home Sunday for a furlough with his parents and friends and Howard Houck has been discharged from the army and is home with his family.
