    3. The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, September 19, 1907 Several of the parties from this city and vicinity who attended the Barnum & Bailey circus at Chariton on Tuesday of last week will long remember their outing, for it cost them considerable money, the result of the work of some smooth pickpockets. WADE LINDSEY was the heaviest loser, as his pocketbook was taken early Wednesday morning in a crowd at the depot where he was waiting for a train to come home. He lost $80.00 in cash and several checks but payment was stopped on the checks. MAC COX, of Eden Township, had his purse taken which contained $8.00. MR. COX was quite fortunate in not losing more for just before starting for Chariton he decided to deposit $90 in the bank at Leon which he had been carrying in his purse. WALTER CAMPBELL, also of Eden Township, had his gold watch and $10 taken. Rather expensive circus for those who suffered. -- LEON REPORTER. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert January 5, 2005 iggy29@rnetinc.net
