The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, September 10, 1908 MARGARET BUFFINGTON was born July 11, 1829, in Meggo County, Ohio, and died at her home in Chariton, September 8, at 6:20 p.m., after an illness of several months with dropsy and heart trouble, aged 79 years, 1 month and 28 days. She was united in marriage to J.W. LAYTON, in Louisa County, Iowa, in 1846. They came to Chariton over fifty years ago, where they have since resided. They were the parents of four children, two dying in infancy, and W.F., about two years ago. Her only surviving child, a daughter, J. ETTA, has continued to live with her mother, to cheer and comfort her in the declining years of her life. MRS. LAYTON was truly a good Christian woman, always thoughtful of those less fortunate than she, administering to the sick, and friends speak of her many charitable deeds and acts of kindness during her long residence here. She united with the Methodist Episcopal Church while quite young and was ever faithful to the cause of her Master. Besides her daughter, she leaves three brothers and one sister to mourn her departure. Funeral services were held at the home this afternoon, conducted by Rev. McCullagh of the Presbyterian Church, and the remains interred in the Chariton Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert March 30, 2005 iggy29@rnetinc.net *I'm not sure where 'Meggo' County, Ohio was...
Nancy, I was wondering if this J.W. LAYTON was Joseph Willet LAYTON or perhaps do you know who his father and mother were and where he was born? I have a Joseph Willet LAYTON in my ancestry tree but do not know who his wife was.
