I vote for 1961 also. There was no Central Community high School and the Leon High team was called 'The Maroons'. The Superintendent then was J. H. England. My mother Winifred Stewart was still working for the school as secretary to the school board at that time. Winifred (Culbertson) Stewart was in the first graduating class from Leon High School in 1921. 'Hal' England had secured a lot of war surplus item and equipped a metal working shop. A few years earlier I had returned after 4 years in the SEABEES and was undecided about returning to college. Mr. England suggested learning welding but I did return to Iowa State instead. I doubt that they had arc welding in 1861 either. They are also pulling for the Cardinal victory over Lenox Tigers. The adult evening school at the Central Community school in Leon opened for the 1961class and much interest in the various classes offered, J. H. England announced Tuesday morning. The adult evening school is being held each Monday night. There are still openings for a few of the various classes. Only two or three more can attend the arc welding class. The drivers training class is filled to capacity. Classes are being taught in Spanish, typing, drivers training, tailoring, knitting, arc welding and western square dancing.
