    1. SNOW DAY
    2. Hi everyone! We are snowed in for the day here with 10 inches of snow and up all around the Kansas City area. I have at least a foot of snow on the deck. The kids are home from school and have been out playing. We had hot chocolate, grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup for lunch. Brings back so many good childhood memories. I grew up in Nebraska and made frequent trips to Iowa to visit my grandparents. In the winter there was always a lot of snow! Every Christmas we made the trip east on Highway 34 to Creston and there was always snow on the ground. I remember the snow plows on the highways and singing Christmas carols. We almost never have snow this deep here so it was wonderful to wake up this morning and see it knee deep everywhere. Christmas and December just don't seem right without a lot of snow! How about you? Do you have any good snow or Christmas memories that you would like to share? Stacey Dietiker

    3. From Cooollll NWKS We still have snow on the ground from our first tracking snow of the year, Nov. 27th. It was a blizzard! Knocked down utility poles, broke power lines and closed I-70 from Salina, KS to Denver, CO. for almost 2 days!! Schools were closed, state highways were closed, etc. Not to mention all the rural homes without electricty from 6:30 PM on the 27th through Dec. 1st. My son was stuck on Nov.28th with a 4 Wheel drive pickup going down the hill in a snowdrift coming out of his driveway.......He was trying to get to town to stay at Mom's Motel (My House). He was one of the ones without power from 6:30 PM on the 27th!! It took the Sheriff's office and the County Road Department to get him out and he got into town around 4:30 the 28th. Had to follow the County Road Dept. into town because of the blowing snow and drifting. Since then we've had 3 more snows, tracking snows, but not devastating ones like the first one. This morning it was -8 degrees and a wind chill of -26 when I was trying unsuccessfully to start my car to go to work. It warmed up to 14 or so today and at 6:30PM when I got home from work it was 4 degrees. I did get the car started, let it run for about 30 minutes, then drove around town and looked at the Christmas decorations for another 30 minutes before coming home and shutting it off. We're supposed to be warm tomorrow, Hi of 30 and a low of 8. Bring on the heat wave! 3. I love the snowy days, too! My husband reminded me that I don't have to go out and do as much as sweep the steps so it was no wonder I loved snow. Frankly, I think snow can cover up a lot of "ugly". Stacey we had vegetable soup and hot tea for our lunch. Some things seem to just take us back to our childhood don't they. I did suggest that if I'd had any real cream I could make snow ice cream, but Glen didn't seem to want to make the trip to town to buy any. (grin) We are in a small town where the kids have plenty of places to sled, are sad that the snow won't make snowmen, and they are thrilled to be out of school! These kids may be sitting inside with video games part of the time, but there are all sorts of sled tracks up and down the yards, streets, and large yards. Several places in Kansas were at 12 - 15 below the last couple of nights, we were - 8 with 8 inches of snow. It looks like we should expect it to warm up (and have mud) by the end of next week.
