I can't find 'hide nor hair' of these folks except in the 1880 census; the children: John A. Bright - 14 Valena L. Bright - 12 (I'm assuming they are the children of Anna Wallace by a former marriage) Vandona Adair- 9 Mary E. Adair- 4 Martha A. Adair - 1 (George and Anna's children) Milton A. Adair - 21 Leroy L. Adair - 18 (George and Martha Wilcox' children) Nancee -------Original Message------- From: Richard Albright Date: 12/20/2009 2:15:16 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [IADECATU] DEATH OF GEORGE W. ADAIR Does anyone on the List know how the JOHN A. BRIGHT mentioned below fits into this family? I assume one of the two wives of G.W. ADAIR was previously married, so I'm wondering if their surnames are maiden names or their "Mrs." names. I have ADAIR kin via both BRIGHT and WOOD in Decatur County but so far I cannot place these folks. My ADAIR line is via James Barton ADAIR (1828-1907), son of Robert ADAIR. I was planning to do that as the next step but Christmas activities kept getting in the way of genealogy <gg>. I'll poke around and see what else I can turn up as I do know there were some Brights married to Wallaces/Wallises shortly before moving to Iowa. Rick=

It looks like Anna Wallace Adair, George's 2nd wife, was a daughter of James Wallace and Susannah Bright who married in Gallia Co., OH in 1840 and reportedly moved to Wapello Co., IA and then vanished. More to follow ... Rick=

Wallace Adair, George's 2nd wife, probably was a daughter of James Wallace and Susannah Bright who married in Gallia Co., OH in 1840, briefly lived in Mason Co., WV (just across the river from Gallia) and then reportedly moved to Ottumwa, Wapello Co., IA and seem to have vanished from all known surviving records. Annie's 1845 birth in WV would fit this scenario. If correct, she would be a granddaughter of Adam Bright and Sarah Headly Bright (Sarah, when widowed in WV, followed several of her children to Decatur Co., IA and died there in 1874. Anna's two children by a previous marriage, John A. Bright and Valena L. or Retta L. Bright, would seem to indicate that Anna once was wed to one of her Bright kinsmen who either died or divorced her before 1869, when she married George W. Adair. > Following up on your 1880 discovery above, I found Anna and her two Bright kids and the Adairs living together in 1885 in Leon, and Widow Mary Bright Hinds (b. WV), a daughter of Adam Bright and therefor aunt to Annie Wallace Adair, is in the same household! > Anna's whereabout after the 1912 death of husband G.W. Adair is so far unknown to me. But her son John A. Bright was found in 1895, Ottumwa; 1900, Oskaloosa; 1910, Chariton. He and wife Ella then vanish, but their son James Bright was in Des Moines in 1920 and Detroit in 1930, married to Winifred ------, and they named a son James. > I have not yet found any of these folks in 1870 (one year after the Adair marriage) or in 1860, but I'm stlll looking. The evidence is only circumstantial at the moment but it does look promising. Rick
