    2. Nancee Seifert
    3. Decatur County Journal Leon, Iowa Thursday, February 8, 1912 Funeral services over the body of S.K. CARMEAN were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Presbyterian Church, Rev. E.N. Bradshaw officiating, and at the cemetery by the Masonic Order. A large company of sorrowing friends were present as a token of respect to the departed. S.K. CARMEAN was born at Mediapolis in Des Moines County, May 7, 1865, and died at his home in Leon, Iowa, February 3, 1912. He came to Leon with his parents when a small boy and had resided in Leon ever since, being engaged in the mercantile business most of the time. He was married to EDITH MAY CRAIGO, June 19, 1889. Three children were born to them, BARDEN SWIFT, LYDON STOWE and DEWEY SAMPSON, the last two dying in infancy. The oldest, BARDEN SWIFT, aged 19, with his mother is left to mourn a devoted father and husband. Besides his wife and son, he leaves to mourn his loss an aged mother and one brother, GEORGE W., who resides at Albia, Iowa. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Leon, Iowa, and no one can say but that he was an exemplary Christian, husband and father. He was also a member of the Masonic Order at Leon. SAM, as he was familiarly called, was known by almost every one as an energetic business man. He suffered intensely the last few months of his life, yet bore his sufferings without a murmur. "And so for me there is no sting to death, And so the grave has lost its victory. It is but crossing with bated breath, And white, set face a little strip of sea. To find the loved ones waiting on the shore, More beautiful, more precious than before." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert December 20, 2009 [email protected]
