one of the little known facts about Iowa and the Civil War is that, per capita, Iowa sent more men to serve in the Union forces during the Civil War than any other State in the Union. These Iowa boys continued on down the river and were instrumental in the capture of Vicksburg.....sealing the fate of the rebelling forces.
