    3. remember every one......if you have a veteran or know of a veteran and his grave isn't marked.....no matter how old it may be....the va will purchase, deliver and put in place an appropriate marker!...........and yes, even in non government grave yards.......i often think of that when i visit the decatur grave yard.......even the palestine grave yard. your township trustees prob'ly need to be made aware of that.......best thing to do is to check with that va rep that i think they have in leon there.....plus i think there's a veteran organization, either the veterans of foreign wars or the American legion that meet weekly in leon too....i think in the court house there somewhere.....mac ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sharon Becker" <srbecker@iowatelecom.net> To: <iadecatu@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 29, 2010 6:39 PM Subject: Re: [IADECATU] LILLIE CEMETERY.. > Links to obituaries that go with the photographs Nancee took:, Lillie > Cemetery: > (click on the Post-em-Note) > > Henry Sinco: > http://iowagravestones.org/gs_view.php?id=519555 > > Infant McDonald - infant daughter of Maley & Mary (Ferguson) McDonald > added link to Maley's biography > http://iowagravestones.org/gs_view.php?id=519340 > According to what McDonald family notes I had, George McDonald, > son of Maley & Mary (Ferguson) McDonald died of wounds he received > while serving in the Civil War on Sept. 25, 1865, and was supposed to > be buried next to his infant sister in Lillie Cemetery. 3. This is very true!! One prime example in Ringgold County was the two Bear brothers, interred in the Bear Cemetery. (I've been there.) The Bear Cemetery is located waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy out in the boonies and no sign to indicate where it is. Is in the woods and just a very few gravesites. Decades later, the two Bear veterans finally received military markers. The Bear family generously shared the story behind the markers with us. http://iagenweb.org/ringgold/cemeteries/bearcivilwarstones.html Sharon R.
