    3. The Journal Leon, Iowa November 8, 1883 Fall plowing is the order of the day now with farmers. Everybody should subscribe for the Journal. It is without doubt the cheapest largest and most newsy paper in the west. Conductor HARRIS' train was in the ditch twice last week. JAMES BRANHARD, of Kellerton, was in town yesterday on biz. LEE MCCOLLOUGH and bride returned Thrursday evening from Leon. Mr. MCCOLLOUGH was united in marriage to Miss LIZZIE SHAW, an estimable lady of this place. The happy couple will receive congratulations of friends here and elsewhere. The merchants here are taking a rest since the weather has got so the farmers can plow. The farmers are so busy that they won't take time to come to town more than once a week. The boys charivaried MCCOLLOUGH Friday night and made him set 'em up to $2 worth of candy. DOW LILLIE says that the C.B. & Q. ought to furnish him with a half fare permit, as he does a good deal riding around, especially from here to Kellerton. H. BROWN, of Leon, is visiting his sons here. He is thinking of moving here Mr. BROWN is a good citizen and we would like to have him with us. JAS. PIERCY is running Mr. FORREY's pasture. Any parties haying stock they want pastured will do well to see Mr. PIERCY and get his terms. ARCHIE BALLOU, section foreman at Lamoni, met with a serious accident while coming in from his work Saturday evening, he fell off in front of his hand car. The car ran over him breaking both legs above the knees. This is bad on him as he has a wife and three small children to support. Guess the good people of Lamoni will not see them want for anything, as Mr. BALLOU is a good citizen and well liked by all. Mrs. NEICE and two sons, of Leon, visited GEO. BASON and wife over Sunday, returning home Monday morning. JOSEPH SIDDERS moved back in BATHE's house, west of town last week. Mr. SIDDERS will farm there the coming season, we are told. Tuskeego is the place to buy cheap goods and always pays the highest market price for produce. -- Yours respectfully, WILD BILL. ---------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert January 6, 2010 [email protected]
