The Journal Leon, Iowa August 9, 1883 ~~THE NORMAL~~ Total Enrollment, 138 The Normal opened Monday with every prospect of success. Rev. Brown delivered the address of welcome to all the instructors and 123 pupils -- the largest ever known to be enrolled the first morning of any previous Normal. With Prof. W.J. SAMSON as conductor and A.B. CORNELL, G.F. DEGAN and T.J. HASTY as assistants, the pupils have a splendid chance for a good three weeks study.
