Guess I'm showing my ignorance here but what do the initials after the names mean? I have a J.W. Daniels (note Daniels not Daniel). Not sure if there were two families...Daniel and Daniels...and not sure what the O.G. means after his name. Can you help? Hi Mary: Found this on the Decatur Website for Garden Grove: Garden Grove Lodge No. 213, K. Of P. Was instituted September 17, 1888. The first officers were: C.M. Ketchum, P.C.; C.C. Cone, C.C.; M.W. Sutherlen, V C.; W.D. Boydston, P; R.D. Hall, K. Of R.&S; S.L. Wood, M. Of F.; H.H. Young M. Of E.; A.J. Cheney, M. At A.; O. Todd, I.G.; J.W. Daniels, O.G. There were twenty-two charter members. They met for many years in the opera hall, but in 1898 they built their present commodious and attractive hall and have it luxuriously furnished. There are now 109 members and it is one of the largest and most prosperous lodges in the county, and is -composed of a very genial and progressive set of members. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1848-9 - Mrs. Enos Davis taught the first term of school - 3 months - at $1 25 per scholar. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Garden Grove Express Thursday, May 18, 1893 Garden Grove, Iowa Miss Lizzie B. WILSON closed a very successful eight months' term of school on Tick Ridge last Saturday, May 6th, with a picnic given by the patrons together with Miss Nora NORTHRUP and pupils of Pleasant Ridge school. Mr. And Mrs. Enos DAVIS very kindly opened their house for the accomodation of all and a bountiful repast was served, after which we were entertained by recitations, dialogues, and music, participated in by pupils of both schools There were in attendance about eighty people and all went away feeling that they had enjoyed a very pleasant day and that many thanks were due "mine host and hostess" for the "right royal manner" in which they had been entertained.
