The Journal Leon, Iowa November 8, 1883 BENJAMIN HAWKINS was born in Fayette County, Ky., the 11th day of August, 1815. In the year 1833 he moved to Bartholomew County, Ind. On the 26th day of December he was married to MARY ELIZABETH J. GRAVES. In September, 1849 he moved to Davis County, Iowa. In September, 1852, he moved to Decatur County and settled on a farm 5 miles east of Leon, where he died October 7th, 1883, being 68 years, 1 month and 26 days old. Funeral discourse at High Point Chapel, the 8th, at 1 o'clock, by S.A. Garber. The great respect which the deceased justly merited was manifested by the many sympathizing friends which followed him to his last resting place in the High Point Cemetery. Brother HAWKINS made a profession of religion about 26 years ago and joined the M.E. Church, and with all the changing scenes around him he stood firm and faithful to the end.
