Had a great trip to the museum today! Stopped at Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni first and took pictures until my memory card was full. Still only a small part of the cemetery. Will have to go back with more memory cards and upload to my laptop as I go. Stopped at the Welcome Center and Amish Country Store before we left for Leon. We spent 4 hours at the museum and I didn't even make a dent in looking at the new records. Tax Lists from 1873, 1874, 1875 and 1897 were at the top of my list. Piles and piles of school records - attendance and examination records. Some ledgers of payments from school treasurers to board members, etc. Lots of years of info for many townships and individual schools. They are working on great projects like a list of people at the County Poor Farm with additional info on each of them. Very interesting stuff! I spent the whole time at the one section of shelves. Didn't even get to anything else. If only I could live there for a month or so! Oh well. I will make one more trip this summer if I can. Sharon Becker came by and it was great to meet her and get a chance to chat. Great to finally meet you cousin!!! I recommend that everyone doing research in Decatur County make a stop in Leon at the museum. There are endless pictures, record books, etc., etc. It's great and the lighting and work space improvements are great! Stacey Dietiker
