    1. [IADECATU] UNION CEMETERY UPDATE.

    3. I shared with everyone that I had gone to Union Cemetery in Morgan Twp. the other day and what a difficulty it was - going thru a homeowner, Rex Amstutz (I think I referred to him as Mr. Stutz, which wasn't correct). Mike Andrew, The Township Clerk and his 'cousins', the trustees, sprang into action and are in the process of legally informing Mr. Amstutz about the public access to this cemetery. They've talked with the county attorney and county recorder and have the 'public access' records from 1877. Amstutz believed he owned the cemetery, which is on the property that he bought - and that he could control who went to see it. He said he'd mow it too.. duh Unfortunately, for him, he has no legal right to keep people from this cemetery, which initially had public access (where he planted his sweet corn)... I understand that the township trustees will be putting up a sign for Union Cemetery - and Amstutz decided he'd put hours that it would be accessible... under the sign. He cannot do that -- the law says there has to be public access to this public cemetery, as a courtesy to the public. Amstutz is very angry about the situation and has put up several large signs in front of his property that say "No Trespassing - 24 hour surveillance"... ........... Wow, he's determined - and - stupid! I was told that he asked if he could put up cameras in Mike Andrew's woods, to see the deer?? He put up six cameras...??? Because of liability issues, Mike doesn't allow Amstutz to hunt on his property and that seems to be a problem for Amstutz.. My question -- If you put up 6 cameras on your neighbor's property, plant a large patch of sweet corn that has a 10" high electric fence around it (where the deer must be laughing their backsides off about being kept out of the corn) directly where the public access to Union Cemetery is, isn't their something 'rotten in Denmark'?? He's completely adament about anyone being on his property...........It must be a shock to have moved from out of state and realize that all the land around you has been and is owned by much of the same family -- and you can't do a durned thing about it! So, I'd think he'd get it -- that you don't mess with Decatur Countians!! Nancee
