The problem with the National Archives is If you don't know the regiment and company of your enlisted person, you will get the first folder in the file with that name. If there are 20 folders with the same name, you will keep getting the wrong one until you finally get to the right person. With only a name for the person pulling the file, they don't have anymore information to go on. With the military regiment and company infor, they will look in each folder till they find the right person.(hopefully) The more information you can give the archives, the better the chance of getting the right file the first time. There is a website by the National Park Service http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm where you could possibly find the information you need to get the correct folder the first time.
