    3. Thanks, Nancee. I have a conference coming up next weekend. Might be next week before I get the links done. Stacey, holler when you are ready for me to add the links. I'll let this group know when the links are done. Thanks a lot!! Should be helpful for those researching interments at Lillie cemetery. (p.s. 142 photos sure does move Decatur Co. forward in bypassing Ringgold Co.!! ha, ha Keep those Decatur Co. photos coming, folks. I'm pulling for you!!!) I do have the transcription of Mt. Zion on Ringgold Co.'s site: http://iagenweb.org/ringgold/cemeteries/mtzionCMTYtranscript.html Another one of those 'laplander' cemeteries. If anyone goes out to get gravestone photos at Mt. Zion, let me know and I'll add links from the transcription page to your photographs on IA Gravestone Photo pages. You can access the transcriptions above - and anything that doesn't have a link (through the deceased's name) doesn't have a gravestone photograph, as far as I know. Another thing of interest for Mt. Zion is that there used to be (still is?) a church at this cemetery. I have a very poor photograph of it. But I'll gladly replace it with a better photograph & give you credit for it - if anyone has a better photograph. FWIW, Stacey has a standing invitation to link anything of interest for Decatur Co. from Ringgold Co.'s site. Since our ancestors didn't recognize the boundary lines between the 2 counties, we want to make sure folks find what they need in their research. Vice versa, I've done the same, such as Decatur Co.'s history of the Catholic church, the Sinco family, etc. (P.S. to Jack - I still haven't found that gravestone for you at Kellerton's cemetery. I'll keep looking, though. It's a big cemetery. Anyone going through Maple Row at Kellerton - the gravestone we are looking for is Jane (Bennett) Sinco's. My plat numbers are off and what I do have doesn't list the plot at times.) Sharon R. 1. [IADECATU] Early Days at Grand River
    2. Someone asked not long ago for untold stories about early days in Grand River area. My Grandmother Catherine Ann Davidson Cone (born l883) was the youngest child of John and Rebecca (Crees) Davidson and if truth be told was a little stinker. She loved to tell the story of when Mason Henry McKee also known as Byrd McKee was "courting" her sister Floy. Byrd would ride over on horseback to visit Floy. While Floy was entertaining him, Grandma hid his saddle (she probably had help) forcing him to ride home bareback. She used to laugh and say "oh the air was blue when he left". It didn't scare him off as I remember visiting them in the late l950's on many a Sunday afternoon. Mary Cone Stewart

    1. [IADECATU] BENJAMIN F. KOGER
    2. Nancee Seifert
    3. For some time now, I have been looking for information on BENJAMIN F. KOGER. Mary Stewart talked with Doris Munyon and Doris sent the obituary to us. When I was at Oak Hill Cemetery a few weeks ago, I believe I found his burial spot/stone with my witching wires - a few feet from CATHERINE ANN (CREES) KOGER's headstone. He died in 1907 and she died in 1931. He was also the brother of my gg grandmother, MARGARET EMARINE (KOGER) who married JOHN FREDRICK "FRED" CREES. ------------------------------------------------------------- Unknown Newspaper B.F. KOGER was born in Harrison Co., Mo., Dec. 5th, 1848; died at his home in Des Moines June 7 - 07 at the age of 59 yrs 6 MO. and 2da's. Mr. KOGER was married to Miss CATHERINE CREES March, 1869. To this union 10 children were born, six of whom are still living, also the mother, to mourn the loss of a kind father and loving husband. Mr. KOGER came with his parents to Decatur Co. when a small boy and grew to manhood on what is known as the old KOGER farm at the mouth of Long Creek. After his marriage he settled on a farm just south of FRED CREES where with his family he resided until 18 years ago when they sold out and moved to Mo. and later to Des Moines, where he resided at the time of his death. He was stricken with paralysis on Decoration Day and continued to grow worse until Friday, June 7 at 1:30 p.m. when he departed this life. The remains were shipped to Grand River accompanied by the family Saturday and were laid to rest in the Funk Town Cemetery. A large crowd of relatives and friends gathered at the depot to meet the bereaved relatives and to pay the last tribute of respect to the deceased. --------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert April 25, 2010

    3. Thanks for you cemetery exploration, Nancee. I have a slew of relatives in Lillie Cemetery. Probably the most important is Martha Edwards Scott who was my gggrandmother. She married William Scott who died in Illinois on the way west so she and her nearly grown son (Francis Marion Scott) came the rest of the way and were among the earliest settlers in the county. Beyond Martha is Henry Sinco for whom my Sinco reunion was named. For some reason his wife, Jane (Bennett) Sinco is buried in Kellerton. The Roscoe Sincos, he was the sheriff of Decatur County for quite a few years is also buried there. And Cash's and Buck's and I forget who all. However, when I was last there, taking pictures, the cemetery was mowed, the stones were standing and everything seemed to be copacetic. I'm ashamed to say that I haven't kept up with it. I'm sorry you had trouble finding it -- I could have driven you right there. I hope that this year I'll get back to Iowa to check on several cemeteries there -- and in Missouri. I feel they should be taken care of -- better than they have been. ... jack

    3. Thanks for finding it, Nancee. I would have continued on w. out of Lamoni, but my map is lacking so I would have been way off. I'm sorry about the ticks, Nancee. They make products (collars and liquids) for cats and dogs to ward off ticks. You'd think with today's technology, they'd have something for humans ;~) When you said Bloomfield, I knew what you meant. That is sad. Another lonely little cemetery that has been forgotten? But your photographs will be cherished for decades and generations to come. I'll take a look when you have the photographs all downloaded and on-line. Remind me when this is done. Then I'll go in and link up what I have for obits & bios from Ringgold County. They will be accessed from the Post-A-Note tab for each gravestone photograph. Thanks, Nancee. I haven't gotten to Patrick Cemetery yet. It's out in the boonies in Ringgold Co. but a lot of Ringgold- Decatur Co. laplanders are interred there. I was told that it had been used as a pasture with cattle destroying many of the stones. Sharon R. 1. [IADECATU] Clinton Cemetery
    2. Nancee - I received the following reply from the Gravestone Project coordinator on how to add Clinton Cemetery: The very last selection in the drop down menu on the submit page is "Add New Cemetery". When one selects that, a special field appears where the submitter adds the cemetery name. Once the first record is approved, that names comes up in the menu in its alphabetic place from then on. 2. Hi Nancee - It's listed as an abandoned cemetery on the site by Carla Rae. I think, but don't quote me, that they only picked up on the active cemeteries. I'll send an email and see if I can get it added. I'll let you know. Stacey In a message dated 4/16/2010 5:15:35 P.M.
