    1. [IADECATU] FORMER LEON MAN EIGHTY-TWO YEARS OLD..
    2. Nancee Seifert
    3. Decatur County Journal Leon, Iowa Thursday, March 25, 1920 On February 18th, 1920, NOAH P. BULLOCK celebrated his 82nd birthday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. P.F. JOHNSON, of Soquel, Calif. Mr. BULLOCK went from Oklahoma to California the first of last December. Only the home folks were present including the families of two of Mr. and Mrs. JOHNSON's children, MARTHA, now Mrs. C.S. COLYAR, of Oakland, who has two children, ROBERT and JEAN, and the oldest son, ROBERT, who with wife and children, DOLORES and KENNETH, live in San Jose. The four little ones are great grandchildren of Mr. BULLOCK. The next day after the birthday he went by auto to visit these grandchildren in their homes, stopping first with ROBERT in San Jose. After visiting with the COLYAR family in Oakland he plans to go to Reno, Nevada, where the second son of Mr. and Mrs. JOHNSON is finishing high school this year. Between Mr. BULLOCK and this grandson, NOAH P JOHNSON, is a very close tie of love and confidence. When the Reno school is out they will both come to Soquel. Mr. BULLOCK received many cards of birthday wishes and greetings from friends in Leon, also from Oklahoma where he lived for many years after leaving Leon. ----------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert April 30, 2010 iggy29@grm.net

    1. [IADECATU] WILSON - BRECHTEL MARRIAGE
    2. Nancee Seifert
    3. Decatur County Journal Leon, Iowa Thursday, March 11, 1920 At high noon on Monday, March 8th, 1920, at the Christian parsonage, Leon, occurred a delightful and happy wedding when Mr. ROY C. WILSON and Miss LENA S. BRECHTEL, of Weldon, were united in the bonds of holy wedlock, Rev. P.H. Green officiating. A short form of the beautiful ring ceremony was used on this happy occasion. The bride is a daughter of JOSEPH and ISA BRECHTEL, of Weldon, an accomplished young lady, possessing to a marked degree those beautiful traits of character that add so much to the charms of sweet womanhood. The groom is a son of STEPHEN A. and FRANCES WILSON, of Weldon, a young man of exemplary habits of life, industrious and honorable in all his relations, having the esteem and confidence of all who know him. Mr. and Mrs. WILSON will make their home on a farm where they will be pleased to meet their many friends. ----------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert April 30, 2010 iggy29@grm.net

    1. [IADECATU] Dale Cemetery
    2. Nancee and everyone else - All of the Dale Cemetery photos have been approved. It was very sad here at our house while I did the approvals. My husband and youngest daughter watched the photos of all of the stones over my shoulder as they came up. Some of them just break my heart. If any of you are related to the Dale family surely it must break yours too! The comments here were "Oh that's too bad!" and "Surely there is someone who can do something about this!" So very sad! Thank you Nancee for all of your interesting and hard work to let us all see what is going on in these small cemeteries in Decatur County. Stacey Dietiker

The Bear Cemetery is located waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy out in the boonies and no sign to indicate where it is. Is in the woods and just a very few gravesites. 1. [IADECATU] Veterans markers
    2. Ken and Mary Booth
    3. We went thru the Sons of the Grand Army of the Republic which is active in Nebraska for my husband's gr-grandfather's stone. We provided copies of the discharge papers, and they did the rest. The town provided the concrete base and the government provided a military stone. Also, something that was neat-the Sons of the Grand Army of the Republic had a 30 minute dedication ceremony with Civil War uniforms, guns (21 gun salute), taped music, the laying of a wreath and knapsack. We had 40 direct descendents with families there and some of the people from town. It was very nice. This organization is in the process of placing stones on all the veterans of the Civil War, Union or Confederate, buried in Nebraska. Mary Booth

    3. Mac, You can even download the application for the grave marker on the net. There are several types of markers. They will ship it to you and you have to install it. Sometimes a local organazation such as the VFW or American Legion will get involved and have a ceramony when it is installed. I just went thru getting the info for Jerry Vernon who has a relative(Veteran of the Civil War) that is buried here in Dodge City in an unmarked grave. Larry L. 1. Re: [IADECATU] DEATH OF GEO. A. CHICK
    2. WH Bronson and Fred Woodard are relatives of mine. Thanks Nancee! In a message dated 4/28/2010 7:20:31 P.M. Central Daylight Time, iggy29@grm.net writes: Decatur County Journal Leon, Iowa Thursday, March 11, 1920 W.H. BRONSON and FRED WOODARD, who had gone to a farm three and one-half miles south of Grand River to look after cattle last Friday evening discovered the dead body of GEO. A. CHICK, who had recently moved away from this same farm lying dead inside the chicken house with a rifle lying by his side. It was about 8:30 o'clock when the body was found. Mr. CHICK had stopped at LYMAN ANDREW's house that day and had bought a repeating rifle of Mr. ANDREW. He had then driven his car on to the farm where he had formerly resided. The car was standing in front of the house with the water drained from the radiator when Mr. BRONSON and Mr. WOODARD went to the place to look after cattle. They thought it strange that the car should be standing there apparently abandoned and began an investigation resulting in the discovery of the dead body in the hen house. The neighbors were notified and the authorities called. It is the opinion of the majority of the people that Mr. CHICK committed suicide and that he had bought the rifle with that intention. Some hold the opinion that it might have been accidental death. He leaves a wife but no children. The bereaved ones certainly have the deep and sincere sympathy of all in the tragic death of Mr. CHICK. The funeral was held from the Presbyterian Church at Grand River Monday, Rev. Vanderpoole having charge of the services. Burial followed in the Funktown Cemetery. ---------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert April 28, 2010 iggy29@grm.net www.iagenweb.org/decatur ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to IADECATU-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    1. [IADECATU] NOTE FROM MARY STEWART!!
    2. Nancee Seifert
    3. From: conestew@cox.net Date: 4/26/2010 7:56:52 PM To: undisclosed-recipients:, Subject: Dale Cemetery There are two other cemeteries in Hamiliton Twp I wish you could see - the Cowles cemetery (3 graves) and the Gammill Cemetery that was next to the farm we lived on. I think you would have to know where they are - to find them - wait till I am over there and will take you down. Both are very isolated and the Cowles would be darned easy to miss. I remember walking by it on my way home from school when I went to Vine Oak one year. There was another one a couple of miles away but have forgotten the name or exactly where it is. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Mary: Would you tell us more about that area and what farm you lived on... Where was Vine Oak School? Thanks, Nancee
