I took some time out to try -- once again -- to find the Warrick Cemetery yesterday.. I headed south on R15, which is right out of Murray and used my odometer to try and follow the Google map I have. Clover Rd. going East - eluded me for a bit, but I finally got on it and seeing it was gravel, went along feeling pretty plucky that I'd found it.. However, just over the hill it turns into dirt/mud road.. I decided to navigate it for the next mile - hoping the whole time I wouldn't get stuck out in the boonies.. I followed the rest of the directions and voila (WALA) there it was on top of the hill. . It is such a beautifully kept little cemetery; had been mowed and all the leaves raked over to the far side of the fence.. Many of the stones have been re-set and it shows that somebody loves this little cemetery... The wind was blowing so hard, but the sun was shining... There are 2 huge old oak trees at the gate entrance and if I'd had J.R.'s 100 ft. tape, I'd have measured their girths just so I could tell you all about them. Awesome... I did find a different way back home so I didn't have to navigate the mud road... It's always amazed me that when you take off on a gravel road, you may NEVER ever find your way home -- they just go on forever and forever and forever...... Just wanted to let you know.. Nancee

Hi Nancee - I was amazed that we are cousins with our great grandfathers being brothers. I don't think Wendell knows that - he especially didn't when you were married to Ted and were all friends and socialized together. What a small world. Our Crees reunion we have in Decatur is just my first cousins (the grandchildren of Willis & Anna) and our families, but I'm sure if you would like to attend no one would object and you could meet some more relatives. Wendell and I are hosts at the next one in 2011. Every summer when I was a little kid I remember going to Leland and Martha Munyons for Sunday dinners. His Mother Julia ( Aunt Jude to a lot of us) Davidson Munyon was still alive. All the kids, grandkids and whoever else would come was always welcome. Until we moved to the farm and back to Decatur County I didn't know we had so many relatives and I thought those dinners were wonderful. I was a very willing audience to listen to Aunt Jude talk about going to CA in l874 when she was a young girl. Leland and Martha had two children, Mendell and Wilma, both ranked among my closest friends until their respective deaths. Is there anyone out there that was at one or more of those dinners? Oh yes, Aunt Jude was my Grandmother Katie Davidson Cone's sister. Mary Cone Stewart

Decatur County Journal Leon, Iowa Thursday, May 6, 1920 In accordance with the Governor's proclamation, that the people of the State of Iowa set out a tree or trees on April 30th, and dedicate it to the memory of our soldier dead, I have the following to report. As I had no forest tree at hand, such as oak, hickory or walnut, I used a small cherry tree and set it out to the memory of GEORGE MCJIMSEY, the son of my neighbor and friend, JASPER MCJIMSEY, who gave his life to the cause of world freedom and since I cannot decorate his grave, because he sleeps in a foreign country, in a strange land among a strange people, I am resolved to place an American flag by this little tree on each Decoratiion Day in memory of him to whose honor it is planted and I have appointed by little grandson, WILLIAM TUTTLE, to take care of this tree in years to come, when I have passed to my reward, and decorate it as I have done, not only to the memory of this one but to the memory of all who gave their lives to the cause of world democracy and freedom. Wanda ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ I grew up in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. My grandma, Pearl (Weldon) Crabb/Woodside lived in a large and beautiful house in Burlington... We too spent every Sunday at her house for dinner. It was tradition that everybody wanted to be a part of.. My heart still swells every time I think of her -- she was my rock. Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and whoever else wanted to come, were all at her table for Sunday dinner. We all grew up and went different ways, as life took us.. She passed away in 1986. My sisters and I often talk about the wonderful memories we have of 'our grandma' and all that she taught us. We, too, have a yearly picnic/reunion in Oskaloosa every August and enjoy catching up on everybody's latest.. Alas, as we all grow older, we have those wonderful memories to sustain us. I didn't know - until last year (I think) - that you had a reunion every two years.. Is this open to ALL Crees descendants, or just your branch of the Crees family? Have a great day. Best Regards, Nancee

I liked Marys memories and I have one my dad , Clifford Jones, told It was probable around the 1920's. neighbors was over to my grandparents house. of course their was the convenient outdoor toilets. The lady went out to the toilet but it was dark so evidently decided to 'go ' by the house. She came screaming into the house saying she got bit on the bottom by a snake. They all went out to get the snake but alls they found was an old hen that was evidently not happy at being disturbed and pecked her Betty Ia ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancee Seifert" <iggy29@grm.net> To: <IADECATU@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 03, 2010 8:20 AM Subject: [IADECATU] MEMORIES -- BY MARY STEWART >I sent this out yesterday, but apparently it didn't get to the List.?
