Well, here I am - late again. I want to thank Barry once more for all the work he has done in putting his Grandmother's material on the site. I eat it all up. In msg 119 - Max Hyatt was the son of the ice man, the wonderful man who came around and put ice in our ice box and, more important, chipped off little pieces of ice for us kids to suck and chew. In msg 121 - Louise (Sires) Badger was my dad's dental assistant before she married. - also, Doc Hines did keep a cigar in his mouth most of the time (even when he was working) but he was a good trumpet player and he put the cigar down when we were playing. Ha! He and my Dad were friendly "competitors." In msg 122 - Yes, Bill, Jack and Gene (that's the correct spelling) Stewart did have a son named Bill. In msg 124 - Mrs. G. B. Price had the interesting first name of Blondina. Rose Springer's maiden name was Bennett and she was a relative of mine as are many of the Bennetts. I say many more names that bring back memories but I won't overload you with that ... jack
A few weeks ago I was able to visit Leon for the second time in 3 years. My great grandmother Ida Walton grew up there and married my great grandfather Oliver Durham there. They along with Oliver's brother Edgar and his new bride also from the area Nancy Jane McGaffick, and David McCutchan and his wife Fanny (Bassett) McCutchan moved about 1871-72 together to Jewell County Kansas and built homesteads close together. Descendants of these three families met in near by Beloit Kansas for a reunion May 28th 2005. 51 attended with other relatives from parts of the Durham family. While I was in Leon I met with some of my Chastain family relatives and learned more about the Walton family. I also got to meet and visit Mary McDaniel the 104 year old senior member of the Walton family. It was really neat to meet her and her family. She remembered visiting when a young teenager my Great grandparents in Kansas. I also got to visit the Drug store and meet Dr. Miller and see her great collection of old pharmacy keep sakes. If you are ever in Leon don't miss that, she has collected a lot of interesting things from the old days that the Dr. and pharmacies used in the area. It was a fun visit and we spent 2 days there visiting the cemeteries and visiting many relatives, most for the first time. The family members still in the area include descendants of the Oney family, Keith Hinds. It was funny to see how small the world can be. His daughter is a writer for my home town newspaper here in Twin Falls Idaho. She got married here a few days ago. Thanks to the family and friends of Leon it is a great place to visit always very friendly! Frank Durham

Hi Barry! This adds some more info for my Cartwright family. I went to school at LeRoy Consolidated School with Karen and Kay Hacker. Karen was in my class and Kay several years older. John & Thelma Hacker and the girls were our neighbors. Also knew the other Hackers mentioned. Thelma Hacker baked and decorated the cake for my wedding in 1963. Thanks again for posting.
