    1. Ed McCreary July 19, 1945 Leon Journal_Reporter
    2. found in grandmother West's scrapbook Barry West Ed McCreary, well known farmer, had quite an unpleasant experience Friday afternoon, when the truck he was driving and attempted to turn and leave the parking space near the park, went into reverse and absolutely refused to be controlled. The result was he backed across the street, then across the walk in front of the Logan Variety store and only came to a halt after crashing through the big front window, (on the west) of that store. The bench in front of that window which ordinarily is occupied, fortunately was vacant as it was reduced to splinters. Bad as it all was it might easily have been much worse.

P. and Margaret Duncan, was born in Mercer county, Mo., March 12, 1870 and passed away July 11, 1945. Her early life was spent in the county were she gained her early education, later finishing her school in the Lineville school where she was known as a quiet, conscientious student. Duncan, of Lineville, one niece, Mrs. Frank Benton, of Lee Summitt, Mo., two nephews, Joseph G. Duncan, of Lansing, Michigan and Bazzell Foxworthy with the service of his country. Mrs. Elliott has lived her entire life in this coummunity and has a host of friends to testivy to her many graces of character. She was of a retiring disposition but never failed to take a stand for the right where principle was involved. More t han 20 years ago she gave her heart to God and united with the Methodist church, where she has served faithfully all these years. As long as her health permitted she was a regular attendent at all the church services and delighted in the work of the Ladies Aid Society. To her own she was loving and self sacrificing, as a neighbor and friend all that could be desired. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Roy Donelson, were held at 2:00 P. M. in the Methodist church on Saturday. The Lineville male quartette with Mrs. Marie Molleston at the piano furnished the music. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery. Mom, does this fit in with great grandmother Suzie Elliott Boyd?

    3. I wish to thank all those who responded to my query of July 6th, when I inquired about the Davis City coal mine(s), mentioned in "Grandma West's Scrapbook." I have browsed thru Himena Hoffman's county history, and that didn't help much. However, all is not lost, yet. Now, I will seek information from geological sources. Don't hold your breath until I find out something! Find out something or not, I will report to this forum in due time. My thanks and regards to all. Chuck Mallette Houston

    3. Barry, thanks for posting these items. I've visited Nadine & Mable McClung many times when they were living in the beautiful McClung House in Garden Grove, IA. The wedding of Kitty and Max Baker was an interesting item to read also. The school bus stopped at their farm home for their children when I was going to school at LeRoy Consolidated. These items bring back many fond memories of Decatur County. 1. early moves from Iowa to Nebraska - 1885 Census Index problem
    2. Decatur Detectives, If any of you, like me, had family in Decatur Co through the early years, and then after 1880 moved further West to Nebraska when the railroad movement was closing river towns --- here's a little problem I've seen on the 1885 Census Index that Ancestry.com has. It only affects NE and only 1885 and not Iowa's 1885. There are so many Midway Boroughs that it is unbelievable. I put the info on a webpage at http://home.att.net/~johnjamesbentley/Census/midway.htm No www, include the ~ tilde and for some reason on my pages the URLs are case sensitive. Elaine

    3. Hi, Am inquiring if anyone knows anything about Wilson (d 1896 and buried at Terre Haute) and wife Emily d 1890 and also buried at Terre Haute. In Obit it mentioned that she had 8 children, 4 of which preceded her in death. One of them was Minnie J. mar to Thomas Chasey. Does anybody know the names of the other three children. I found Wilson, Emily in 1850, 1860 and 1880 census but cannot find them in 1870. Am trying to find documentation of their children. Thanking you in advance, Jean arizonajean1@cox.net Smile And The World Smiles Too.
