    3. I was wondering that too. I got over 100 today in western Nebraska. I'm like Carol I can't tolerate the heat. Maybe I'm just getting older. Usually during Cheyenne Frontier Days, we get rain & it cools down. Maybe we will have rain this next week during Frontier Days. 2. RU on vacation? Well, that's a toughie. Each morning Brownie 'n I get up and ask each other what day it is. Sometimes we argue - is it Tuesday or Wednesday? But I know when it's Sunday because that day the funnies are colored. That marks a week. The weather here is Georgia weather. We haven't had but one day over 90 degrees but the humidity just about matches it. Ninety everything. Yes, I remember the hot weather in the mid thirties. We had a grasshopper attack in, I think, '36 and I volunteered to go battle them. I had a shovel and I just smashed and smased - I expect I killed hundreds of thousands - along with a lot of adults. We slept outdoors and on one occasion the temperature didn't drop much below a hundred for several "nights." Didn't know Robert McMorris but John McMorris was in our class of '43. I hate to hear of a gifted writer leaving us. Of course, their words stick for a while but then even they sort of disappear. Hope everyone is thriving this summer ... jack

    3. You're funny, Jack! I remember my retired friends telling me they couldn't keep track of the days either. Now that I'm retired, if I don't have things schedules, it's hard to remember what day, week, year it is...<g> And if I don't write my schedule down, forget it. When I have an appointment now, I tell them to call me the day before. Makes everyone a lot happier when you don't skip appts. 1. Summertime Weather
    2. Hello all, I've been enjoying the shares from Grandmother West's Scrapbook. Thank you so much. Here in Colorado we have very low humidity which is great but the temp has been over 90 everyday FOREVER! or so it would seem to me. I was raised in Kansas with 100 & 100 and when I was a kid I passed out and got very sick from the heat a number of times - so much so that my thermostat seems to have been affected. I have NO tolerance for anything much above 20 degrees (or so it seems). Next week when the new movie about Penquins comes to town I think I'll go see it and pretend I'm in antartica at least for a couple of hours - though I might just stay and watch it twice. Happy days to all of you dear genealogy friends! Carol in Colorful but hot Colorado

    3. Wonder how many of you remember the heat in Iowa back in 1934 and 1936. I read or heard that those years had the highest temp on record.........115 or around there. I surely remember those days when we had no a/c or even electric fans. We kids made a bed on our front porch as so hot in the house and we thought that was a blast. In Leon we were so fortunate to have a swimming pool which was constructed by the WPA or CCC men. Anyway, my little bro and sis and I went to the pool almost every day back then. How lucky we were.. 3. Barry, we're here. I think everybody is doing their errands early in the day and hibernating til the sun goes down if they aren't on vacation. The cars get so hot while you're in shopping you hate to open the door. I live in Southern California and it's not as humid as back in Iowa but it's been over 50% some days. Then you feel it more. Irma, my Mom told me she used to take naps on the floor of the house to try to keep cool. She didn't tolerate the heat any better than I do! I've been back to Iowa in summer and I remember those hot nights out on my Grandma's farm. I don't see how the men worked so many hours in the sun getting the hay in but I guess they ate a lot of water and lemonade. We usually went back in October when it was turning cooler and the leaves were so pretty. (probably my Mom's idea!!!!) Gosh, just talking about it makes me want to go back again!
