I have several photos of employees, my Aunt, Vera Desomber of Derby, included who worked for the Kodak company in Des Moines around the late 20s or early 30s. Where would be a good place to donate these photos? I have written to the Kodak company several times, but have not gotten a reply. Get back with me if you have any ideas. Donna in OR.
Stacey, Mine is correct. Jane Dorsey
Hello Listers - I'm looking for a person who uploaded a gravestone photo for Leonard Trisler in Garden Grove Cemetery under the email address _rayjunc@yahoo.com_ (mailto:rayjunc@yahoo.com) to the Iowa Gravestone Project website. Does anyone know who this person might be? The email address does not work. I have questions about the photo. Thank you for your help! Hello Listers! Next week the annual Surnames List emails tests will begin! If you have your email address on the Surnames Lists please check this week to make sure it is correct. If it isn't, then please send me your corrected email address AND A LIST OF THE NAMES your email is listed under so that I can make the changes. For the new people on the list here is how this works: 1. A generic email stating that it is a test to make sure that your email address listed on the Surnames List for Decatur County, Iowa is still working will be sent to everyone who is listed. If you receive one you DO NOT need to respond. 2. Those email addresses that bounce back (unless it says mailbox full) will be listed in emails to the Decatur County, Iowa Mailing List asking for alternate email addresses. 3. If there is no response from the mailing list emails there will be one other search made on a search engine. 4. If a new email address can not be obtained through the search engine then the listing for that email address will be deleted from the Surnames Lists. This process helps avoid the frustration and confusion that happens when someone is looking to share their information and an email address doesn't work. Thank you so much for your help with this annual process! Stacey Dietiker momdit@aol.com Decatur Co IA List Administrator Decatur Co IA Website Coordinator

Hi Listers, I am searching for info about my great, great grandparents William R. & Eliza (Martin) Smith. They had at least one child (my great grandmother), Margaret Ann or Ann Margaret (Smith). She was born Jan. 21 1864 in Decatur co. Iowa. She married in Aug. 23, 1885 Benjamin Franklin Daniel (son of Thomas J. Daniel and Sarah Jane Dobson Daniel) in Decatur Co., IA. They had 4 children: Nettie Pearl, William Benjamin, Charles Luther, and Sarah Anne. The first three were born in Decatur for sure. Hope you can help. I have run out of places to look from here in Nebraska. Sincerely, Loranda Daniels-Buoy

Stacey, Thank you for the George P. Campbell bio. His sister Nancie Marie married Robert Harrison Johnson. Their daughter Mary Isabel married Grant Dorsey and they are my husband's grandparents. Campbell branches have been confusing to me. I see the name here on the list and wonder, "Is this a relative?". This will help a lot. Thank you. Jane Dorsey
My kids appreciate the old days. They love that old time Rock and Roll, especially the hard rock stuff which we listen to on my record and 8 track player. Hard to believe that my record and tape collection is now officially classified as an antique / collectable. Craig Fenton

Could be my Nancy McMurtrey died in 1895, but I have been looking for info on Joshua and Nancy's nieces and nephews. John didn't have a Nancy that I know of either, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. Send the obit, I am interested. I, too, feel sad about our children not getting to enjoy our good old days ... however, I am now getting old enough to listen to them and their cousins bewail the fact that their children can't enjoy "their good old days" ... I guess the sadness comes to all of us. We might ask our children, nieces and nephews what their favorite memories are of their childhood. We might be surprised! (smile) They will probably select their favorite memories and try to show those to their children. For example, my nieces and nephews and daughters all see to it their children visit zoos all over the US. Still I have to admit, I miss seeing the kids out on their bikes and playing ball (with made up rules) in their back yards in our little town! Gayle in Kansas
Even my son's generation (he's 31 tomorrow) missed out on a lot of great things, drive-in movies (went when he was young, A&W drive-ins (went when he was very small), playing outside & making up games (yes, it's the computer game age), playing board games with the "old" folks (that just didn't seem to appeal to his generation). There were too many things out there. I feel sad that he didn't have the same childhood we had. I cherish all the memories! Barbara (Kelley) Trammell Texas
I enjoyed the resolutions. In my own case (scott) I never would have tracked the family back (William begat John begat William begat John and etc) if it hadn't been for a rebellious individual who named one of the scotts "Jeduthen." Now Jeduthen wasn't in a direct line but he was the older brother of one of the Williams. With that hook I moved back another five generations. Let's hear it for imaginative naming ... jack
Jan Nancy wants me to scan the obit to her. If Stan is interested I will be glad to send it to him also. Donna in OR
I don't know of any McMurtry's living in Oregon but perhaps Craif Fenton would be interested. Craig, I haven't forgotten about that picture you posted which I said looked so like one I have. Perhaps we have a connection through Elizabeth if I could ever find the other picture. Thanks, Donna and Nancee. Happy New Year! Hello Everyone, We had the pneumatic tubes in the late 1960's when I worked for United Airlines. In reservations, we also had something similar...We filled out a card with the customer's reservation information, put it in a tube or conveyer belt, pulled a lever and off it went "somewhere!" We also had something interesting at the end of each row...if we needed to talk with another UAL location, we had a device that we could speak into, something like a megaphone. I don't remember exactly how we accessed the other location and we definitely had to have permission to use it, but it was a pretty neat thing. In the early 1990's, I was teaching at a travel training school. This particular class was learning to use the airline computerized reservation system, which is fairly complex with a lot to learn. Like most things, it's easy once you learn it, but the learning process can be pretty horrific! I wanted to encourage the class and make them a little more comfortable with what they were going through, so I made the statement, "Before there were computers," and then was going to explain how I had learned to make reservations manually and then had to learn how to do it with the computer. The class was made up mostly of early 20-year-olds and when I said, "Before there were computers," I happened to be looking at one of the girls on the front row...her eyes got so big and her mouth literally dropped open and she said with GREAT wonder in her voice, "Before there were computers!!!" Like, how could that possibly be??? I couldn't help it, it was so funny, I burst out laughing and asked her permission to share her statement with the class. She was a very sweet person and said, "Sure." We all had a good laugh and it did help break the tension in the room...and I was able to finish my story, too. I also used the word, "Notions," with my great-niece this past week...and it was definitely a word she had never heard...just think, we have a whole new generation to educate!!! May God bless each of you abundantly during the coming New Year!
