I was planning to do that as the next step but Christmas activities kept getting in the way of genealogy <gg>. I'll poke around and see what else I can turn up as I do know there were some Brights married to Wallaces/Wallises shortly before moving to Iowa. Rick=

    3. http://lucascountyan.blogspot.com/2007/11/all-are-sleeping-on-hill.html Merry Christmas to every one of you.. Take time to read Frank Myers' writing it's just what we need this time of year.. He's a truly gifted guy. He spent several years going between Chariton, Iowa and Mason City, Iowa as a newspaper writer; but has finally settled in Chariton. I know I haven't contributed much to Lucas County this past year, but hope to find a way to improve that this coming year. So, don't give up on me!! My Best Regards, Nancee

    2. John Kendall
    3. Richard: Thank you for the prompt reply RE. the Adair family. Jesse Franklin Adair died 14 April 1931 at Galena, Jasper County, Missouri. His death certificate is No. 14591 and is on-line at the Missouri Archives website. Louisa (Kendall) Adair's Death Cert. is also available at the same web site (No. 9144). Louisa died 11Mar 1930. Both are buried just across the MO. state line in Kansas. I found five children of Jesse and Louisa: James S. b 22 September 1876; d. 19 July 1948 (Jasper Co., MO.); Harry W., b. 19 Feb 1878, d. 5 March 1952 (Jasper Co., MO.); Luther b. 14 May 1884, d. Jasper Co., MO.; Martha, b. abt 1890 (Iowa); Phylander, b. abt 1897, not sure where. Jesse and Louisa were married at Garden Grove, Decatur County, Iowa on 30 Sept 1875 per the Decatur county Iowa marriage records. It appears the family was in Decatur County until sometime in the 1890's after which they moved to Jasper County, Missouri, near Zincite (Now Bellville I believe). They lived there for about years: i.e. the rest of their lives. Finally, in case you are interested, Louisa was the daughter of James S. & Elizabeth Ammermon Kendall. She was born in Indiana. There is a biography of James Samuel Kendall, father of Louisa on this Decatur County Website. If there are any photographs of Jesse & Louisa Adair extant, I would like to have a copy. Most likely they would be in Missouri I would think. A little chair will be vacant here but another voice will mingle with the angels around God's throne where he has been transplanted. He leaves a father, mother and two brothers to mourn his loss His little song was "Lord I'm Coming Home." Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at the A.C. Church conducted by Rev. I have ADAIR kin via both BRIGHT and WOOD in Decatur County but so far I cannot place these folks. My ADAIR line is via James Barton ADAIR (1828-1907), son of Robert ADAIR. 3. Decatur County Journal Leon, Iowa Thursday, February 8, 1912 The bean supper given last Saturday evening at the G.A.R. Hall by the G.A.R. And the W.R.C., was well patronized. The supper was a success. On Monday dinner was also served and again patronage was good. The camp fire Saturday evening at the M.E. Church was well attended in spite of the inclement weather. The program as announced in last week's Journal, was carried out. The address by Captain Lot Abraham, of Mt. Pleasant, Department Commander of the Iowa G.A.R. was splendid and received the very close attention of the audience. He told of war times, relating many incidents of those strenuous days, sang a number of old army songs, and told something of the organization and work of the G.A.R. He is a pleasing speaker and those present enjoyed a great treat, everyone enjoyed his address and especially was it appreciated by the old soldiers. Captain Abraham was a good soldier and a capable commander. During the evening he told of paroling 5,020 confederate soldiers, the recital of the incident proving highly interesting Captain Abraham met many of our people while in the city and all enjoyed his visit with us very much. While here he was a guest of Captain J.D. BROWN, State Senator from this district. J.H. EVANS, of Leon, was a member of Captain Abraham's company during the war. Sunday evening he spoke at the Christian Church greatly pleasing a good sized audience. Captain Abraham departed Tuesday morning for Bedford where he had an engagement to speak that evening. ---------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert December 19, 2009 [email protected]

    1. [IADECATU] A BRUTAL ACT -- A WOMAN IS KNOCKED SENSELESS BY HER HUSBAND.

    3. Decatur County Journal Leon, Iowa Thursday, December 28, 1911 Mrs. WM. BRIGHT, who resides with her husband and family nearly opposite the school house, related to us an incident she witnessed a few days since which illustrates the utter brutality a man is capable of when influenced by passion and whiskey. Her attention was attracted by a man's loud talking and going to the window she saw a team passing in which was seated a man and woman, the latter carrying a child on her lap, and just as she reached the window, she was horrified to see the man draw back his clinched fist and strike the woman a powerful blow on the side of the head. The woman was knocked senseless and would have fallen from the seat to the ground had not the man caught and dragged her limp form back. The team had gone perhaps fifty yards before the woman seemed to have regained consciousness and began crying and screaming, and seeing Mrs. BRIGHT, who had rushed to the door to assist the woman in calling for help, grasp the reins from the man's hands and attempted to stop the team and throw herself out of the spring wagon. The man however, wrenched the lines from her hands and lashing the horses into a run drove rapidly northward, the woman still weeping and screaming. It was raining quite hard at the time and no others seemed to have been in sight or hearing. Mrs. BRIGHT did not know the people, but can give a good description of them. The man was probably under the influence of liquor but a man who is capable of committing such an act is a coward and a brute, drunk or sober. -- Lineville Tribune. ---------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert December 18, 2009 [email protected]
