The siblings were children of Mr. Alice COZAD (1809-1868) and Emeline SWANK (1821-1902). My late cousin Floyd COZAD said Alice was a Scottish name, so perhaps short for Alistair, a popular given name in Scotland. COZAD was born in Warren County, Indiana, May 3, 1843, and died at his home in Moulton, Iowa, March 16, 1912, aged 68 years, 10 months and 13 days. He came with his parents to Decatur County, Iowa, in 1854, where he grew to manhood. He enlisted in the 7th Missouri Cavalry, April 1, 1862 and served three years in the war. In July, 1886, he was married to REBECCA A. DALE, of Decatur County. To this union five children were born, three of whom are still living, EMMA MCELDERY, of Appanoose County, Iowa; WM. T., of Kansas; and A.F., of Decatur County, Iowa, and made his home there until his death. His wife died in 1874, and in 1876, he was married to SARAH A. SWANK, of Appanoose County, who survives him. His death came suddenly, from a stroke of apoplexy. He was in his usual health and was stricken and died in a few minutes, without regaining consciousness. He had been a member of the Christian Church for a number of years and lived an earnest Christian life, so we mourn not as others who have no hope." He was brought back to Decatur County and funeral services were held at the old homestead in Morgan Township, where his early life had been spent. Services were conducted by H A. Cowles of Pleasanton, after which he was tenderly laid to rest in the Dale Cemetery, there to await the sounding of the trumpet on the resurrection morning. ---------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert December 28, 2009 [email protected]

    3. Just got word that my great-nephew Augustus arrived safe and sound at 8# 14 oz. My nephew had to drive my niece-in-law through the blizzard (top speed of 45 mph) to get to Des Moines in time for his arrival at 6:07 on Christmas morning. Everyone is doing just fine. Fortunately, my nephew is a cool guy - it takes a lot to rattle him. This, however, almost did it for him. Big sister Brynn wants to know when they will get back home so she can play with her new little brother. Sharon -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. 3. I have not tried the fruitcake recipes but oodles of the other ones. Because they are submitted by actual people like us, that is home cooks, the recipes are very dependable and the ingredients available to most. I love fruitcake, but my mother-in-law did not leave me the recipe! In fact, after one of the teenagers sneaked the rum and replaced the part empty bottle with water making all of her fruitcakes mold, she never made them again. Nobody told, but the teen finally fessed up when she got a little older. It makes a good family memory--esp. since that sister-in-law won't touch a drop of rum to this day! Merry Christmas.
