Start at the Bloomfield Library - genealogy room. The library is located just north of the Post Office. They have a lot of obits already itemized from 1886 on up. Also actual papers - please be careful of these because they tear real easy. If you can not find an item in any of those papers you can try the newspaper office. You will be surprised at all you can find at the library though. The records for birth, death and marriages are kept at the courthouse in the recorders office. They are great gals in there and very happy to help. If you have time you can go up to Ottumwa and check out the Historical Center located at the old railroad depot, 210 West Main. They have a great genealogy department there also. While you are in the court house be sure to take a tour of the rest of the building. The court house is a real treasure for it's time. Also check out the other buildings around town as this is a very old town. There is a welcome center on Hwy 63 just a few blocks north of the square. They sell items made by local folks here and some made by the Amish. Be sure to ask for a map of the different little shops that the Amish have and what they have to sell. I'm sure you will enjoy yourself in Bloomfield and Davis County as well as Ottumwa in Wapello County. Enjoy your trip - Linda
