Check out the story on http://www.cbs.com/flat/story_138691.html 60 Minutes presented an hour long program about the accidental discovery of the shipping of children for 2 decades from children's homes in England to institutions in Australia. The children were told they were orphans and the parents were told their children had been adopted. Now 50 to 30 years later, they are discovering this was not so! These children are not even considered to be citizens of Australia and have to go through the naturalization process to get passports to visit parents in their 80's or 90's. There is an organization set up by Margaret Humphreys (who made this discovery) that is researching and trying to connect the children with their families and to locate their birth certificates. It is called the Child Migrants Trust. The records they are using are microfiche. This is a genealogy nightmare!!!!!! I have shared this with the lists to which I belong.
