    3. Thank you SO much Jane. Actually I've been looking into the "Bryant" name also. It may just be coincidence, but my Grgrandpa's his given name was "ARGALUS". This name seemed unique enough to me that I did a search and found an ARGALUS BRYANT. My grandma's name was Riley, she married Hubble Reed, whose father's name was Argalus Reed. Perhaps there's no connection, but I surely do thank you for the look-up. Sincerely..... Jeanne <Reed> Gaylord

    3. Looking for any information on Thompson Riley. I find his name in the 1850 census for Davis Co. IA but that's all I have. My source is Family Tree Maker census CD's. which only lists names.... NOT those of the same household etc. Any help truly appreciated, Jeanne

    2. Jeanne, The 1850 Davis County, Iowa Census book says; Thompson Riley, age 38, cooper, born Missouri; Martha, age 36, born Kentucky; Cosby, age 13, born Ia.; Sally M., age 10, born Ia.; Elizabeth, age 7,born Ia.; John, age 4, born Iowa; Lewis, age 1, born Iowa. Riley family living in Marion Township, Davis County, Iowa. Elisha Townson was living on one side of them and Moses Ranes was living on the other. The 1856 State Census lists him: Thompson Riley, age 43, cooper, born Missouri, 11 years in Iowa; Martha, age 42, born Kentucky; Cosby, age 18, farmer, born Indiana; Sarah, age 15, born Indiana; Elizabeth, age 12, born Indiana; John, age 10, born Iowa; Lewis, age 7, born Iowa; Lucy Ann, age 4, born Iowa; Cardine, age 1, born Iowa. The Riley family was living in Marion Township, Davis County, Iowa. The family is still in Marion Township, Davis County, Iowa in 1860 living four doors from my so many greats grandparents (small world). The only aditional information is: they own their residence, and Cardine has become Caroline. age 5, born Iowa. Living on one side is William Forsyth, farmer, and on the other is John Sellers, age 24, born Indiana, book dealer. Actually scratch the next door; he is living with them. Next door is Shelby Matherly, farmer. Hope this helps, Jane I. Bryant

    3. Hi All, If you have tried to access any of the Rootsweb pages, you will know that they are down. Here is a note from the server owner. We are hoping to be back at full capacity by early next week. HARDWARE STILL BROKEN (Friday ... ) Date: Friday, June 05, 1998 8:31 AM > The good news is that the failing drive is now out of the machine, > and the disks are organized such that we can easily move them to a > newer and faster machine. > > The bad news is that the old server is still overloaded. We had > hoped the new drives (which are much faster than the old drive) > would have helped reduce the load on the server, but we still have > capacity problems. We obviously still have stability problems on the old Web server. I'm in the process of replacing all the adapter boards, with especial prejudice concerning the SCSI disk controller. Regardless of whether I can get the old server to stay up, we'll have the new server online within the next couple of days. That should fix the problem in a permanent sense. -B Good luck in your quest, Yvonne, List Administrator ****** Yvonne James-Henderson, Burke, VA MO USGenWeb Archives Manager http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mo/mofiles.htm NC USGenWeb Archive Manager http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/ncfiles.htm DC USGenWeb Archive Manager http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/dc/dcfiles.htm ****** My Family Discussion Lists: BALLEAU BRISBIN COOKSEY GALBRAITH HITT HORN KENTON LAWSON LUCKY MORROW SWEET ZIMMERMAN Also researching JAMES/WRIGHT/WALLACE/WOODS//EATON/DRAKE/ FORSYTHE/WALKER/RUSSELL/DAVIS/BOOKOUT/BARNEY/REYNOLDS/ BUMP/HENDERSON/MCCLURG and more! 3. Jennie, Floris is north and a little east of Bloomfield, Davis County, Iowa. Go north from Bloomfield on highway 63 about 9 or so miles and turn east onto a hardsurface road toward Floris. Floris is no bigger that a minute and the cemetery can't be too hard to find. Since I haven't seen your previous mail I am not too sure what you know about the Quigley family but there were still Quigleys in Davis county in 1950. There is a Henrietta Heady age 50, born Indiana, died 14 March 1893 buried at Dunnville Cemetery which is just a little north of Bloomfield (if my memory serves me right). There are 3 Heady males living with Conrad Leper family of Soap Creek Twp. in 1850. Also a John Quigley family of eight living in Salt Creek Twp. Sarah Lepper age 39 died 28 April 1881, born Indiana, buried IOOF. Quigley, infant 1 month, died 3 Feb. 1883, buried IOOF Floris; and Frank E. Quigley 23 years, died 6 Jan 1884 buried Pierce Cemetery, born Davis County, Iowa. If you do not have some of the census listings mail me and I'll give you the info. William C. Quigley age 55, born Morgan County, Ohio, died 19 August 1897, buried Floris Cemetery. Jane

    2. Dennis
    3. Dear Friends, James was 19 on the 1880 US census in Michigan. A family letter states he came back from Iowa for his brother's funeral sometime in the early part of this century. Is someone researching this surname in Iowa perhaps or possibly have a referral/recommendation? Best regards, Dennis Lyon

    3. Hello All, I'm sorry to be posting this to the groups we belong to but it's a very important mater! We have been having a lot of problems with a email stalker for 5 months now. He now has a new way to stalk us, and that is through the groups we belong to. He slandered our family names; SCOTT & STONE to the SCOTT group. Today on my husbands LACEY line he has miss lead a nice researcher saying we have info. to help her in her search that we do not have. Which in my opinion is very sad thing to do to any researcher. This guy we do not know except through his harassment of our family. He also knows nothing about our family or the information we have or do not have. By posting this we hope to stop any other's hopes he may miss lead. Or any other family names he may slander of our families. His name is: Curt Gaines from PA. Not the name he signs on his letter's which is: Carl Haines. His email add. is: rcgtkg@voicenet.com Voice net abuse has been advised, and kept up to date of all his harassment's about this matter since Jan., and they are investigating. If you receive a email from him concerning us, or our family please forward it to me so I may forward it to voice net abuse to add to there file. Warmest Regards Sherrie Smith awsl@mcione.com

    3. Hi....I didn't know that such a thing could happen. I will be on the alert, if trash mail isn't enough, we have to contend with such as you have written . will keep my eyes open. Thanks...Mary K. So many people are so eager to find their families it is such a shame that someone abuses the "E" mail to harass those that may be able to help them.

    3. Wanda - > I am looking for information on a ____ RUPE m. to Sylva CLARK , d/o Douglas > CLARK & Mahala BENGE. What time period are we talking about here, and have you checked the census? I believe that the Rupes (also spelled "Roup" or "Roupe" in some records I've seen) were thicker on the ground in Wapello County than Davis. Although not directly related to that family, the paths of my MATHEWS, THAYER, HUDDLESTON and BOLANDER families crossed with those of the Rupes on more than one occasion, and I believe that they were neighbors in Ohio before coming to SE Iowa. Good luck, and happy hunting! Linda :) Linda Hurlbert Shogren San Mateo, CA
