    3. If you are curious as to whether there still might be certain families in the Bloomfield area, go to one of the oneline people search sites such as www.switchboard.com and you can enter a surname only plus the city/state Bloomfield/Iowa and it will list any families with that last name in the Bloomfield area it can find. You might also try listing Pulaski, Floris or Drakesville in place of Bloomfield. I think each of these small post offices are still operating. REvans

    3. The Davis County census of 1856 listed my gg-grandmother, Margaret A. BARKER, with her five children, Arah, William, Melissa, Elizabeth and Sarah. No father was listed, but I have found that his name was Ephraim BARKER. It is possible that Ephraim had died prior to the census, which left Margaret a widow with five children to raise. I would like to learn if she remarried in Davis County, and also any information about Ephraim if he died there. Margaret was born c 1821 in Ritchie County, Virginia and came to Davis County about two years prior to the 1856 census. Ephraim was born c 1816 in Ritchie County, Virginia. Many thanks to anyone who can give me any piece of information about these ancestors of mine, or suggestions on where to request data. Margaret Udell Concord CA udell@pacbell.net

I will type them over for you and send them to you in the next couple of days. Since you live in Des Moines, Ia., I have a favor to ask of you too. Is there anyway that you can look up information on David POWER for me? He was born in VA/WVA in 1842 and married Elizabeth Jane FRENCH, daughter of Franklin Robinson FRENCH and Virginia Irwin, born 1838 in Jennings County, Indiana, in Grove Twp., Davis County, Ia., August 23, 1870, at the home of Franklin R. FRENCH. Both had been married before, she to Elijah KNAPP in 1856, he to unknown in (possibly) Pa., about 1860 to 1865. They are in the 1880, 1885 and 1895 Davis County censuses. David POWER and three children, Sarah E., born in Pa. in 1866, Joseph F., born in Davis County in 1867 or 1868, and Laura B., born in Davis County in 1868 or 1869, living in the household of Reuben Johnson, wife Martha E. and son Birt, in the 1870 Davis County census. On the FRENCH's, I have information going back to the early 1600's. Where does Franklin R. FRENCH fit into your lineage? BTW, my grandmother, Hazel Marie KNAPP, was born in Des Moines, Ia., July 28, 1888, to Dwight KNAPP and Alma WILSON. Small world we live in, isn't it? Linda

    3. Hi Steve, I was going through some snail mail that I'd received some time ago and came across some of your FRENCHs. Here is the information that I have found so far. Amos B. FRENCH was born July 4, 1863, and died February 12, 1945. He is buried in Stiles Cemetery, Grove Twp, Davis County. Mattie FRENCH, wife of Amos, was born October 7, 1865, and died January 20, 1924, also buried in the Stiles Cemetery. Reuben E. FRENCH was born August 28, 1885, died August 20, 1950, also buried in the Stiles Cemetery. I have no information on Augusta (Gussie) HOUGLAND, Eva FRENCH or Orpha Ollie FRENCH. Other possible siblings include: Henry Levi FRENCH , born November 30, 1861, died January 12, 1938, buried in Stiles Cemetery. His wife, Retta, born November 1, 1868, died February 1, 1926, buried in Stiles Cemetery. (father ?) Rowlee E. FRENCH, born November 4, 1822, in Jennings County, Indiana, died July 4, 1902, at age 79 years, 8 months, buried in Stiles Cemetery. (mother ?) Elizabeth Jane (wife of Rowlee), born February 1, 1824, died December 31, 1893, buried in Stiles Cemetery. Hope that this gives you something more to work with. Linda Power petey@frugal.com

    2. I have been a subscriber to other listservs in tracing my family roots including Union Co, OH, Dauphin Co, PA, and Morris Co, NJ. But I thought I would try Davis Co, IA where the previous four generations of Boals resided since about 1860 when George Mitchell Boal b. 1821 in Union Co, OH, my gg-gf and his wife Susannah (Mills) Boal b. , later to become Susannah Small the wife of John Small after Dr. GM Boal's death in 1888, also of Davis County IA until her death in 1921. Daniel Small's wife may have been named Ferguson. I am seeking more information on her. She moved to MO after Daniel Small's death. Delmore's second wife was Rebecca McLaughlin My grandfather was Ezra Boal (b. 1891 in Davis Co, IA) m. 1911in Davis Co, IA Orpha Ollie French b. in 1894 in Davis Co, IA. Orpha parents were Amos B. French and Mattie Turner. Siblings I know of included Reuben Eastman French and Eva French. His second wife was Augusta (Gussie) Hougland. 3. Hi, You might try this person. She has a lot of House information on Mathias House's ancestors. I have information that she sent me but have never combined it into my file yet. I actually have not gotten it combined into one file yet as it was sent in numerous parts. I wanted some more proof before adding it to my own file, but it is a place to start and something to work with. She sent me information Sunday on the marriage of Matthias House and Margueriete Jaekler. I know I spelled that wrong because I didn't look it up before typing in. Please excuse. This Matthias is the original immigrant ancestor. She sent a copy of a ship passenger list and marriage list. I would like to know where you got the information on Peter V. Jarvis's parents. It would give me a clue where to look to verify it. Hope this helps.
