    3. I am working on my husband's ancestor, John Allen who settled in Davis Co., IA. He was born 31 Jan. 1808 in Adair Co., KY (later became Russell) and married Margaret Barbara Grimes in Grayson Co., KY 9 May 1833. Sometime between about 1845 and 1850 they migrated to Davis Co., IA as did many others from that KY area. His brother-in-law may have been William Wooldridge who married Agnes Allen in Adair Co., KY. They also came to Davis Co. Anybody working on these families? Was there a certain area in Davis County where these Kentucky families clustered together? IA 1852, Davis Co., IA (State Census), Soap Creek Twp William Crouch, 2 males, 1 female, 1 voter, 1 militia The 1852 census is the last record I can find for William Couch. By 1860, his wife Julia Ann Thomas is married to Barnabas B. King and shows up in the 1860 Census, Hopkins Co., TX. Julia’s 2 Couch sons, Rodney, 12 and William, 8 are in the household, as well as her two King daughters, Clara King, 3, b. MO, and Ellen King, 1, b. AR. By 1870, the family is in Farmersville, Collin Co., TX, with the Couch boys still part of the family. In the 1880 Census, Collin Co., the two Couch sons are listed in the family of their widowed mother, Julia. In addition, Rodney Couch has wife, Lora (Love?), and a daughter Ellen Couch. I have lost track of Rodney and William Couch after 1880 Census. I am descended from Julia Ann Thomas through her second marriage to Barnabas B. King. I am desperate to find someone who knows her, and I would like very much to find descendants of her Couch sons. Thank you for reading all of this. Any help greatly appreciated. 3. Hello, I have a Faunce in the 1860 census that is married and named James, then can't find him in 1870 and then found a marriage record in Salt Creek for a IB Faunce to a Mary Giddeon in 1875, they had a son George, in 1876 and this IF Faunce died in 1878. There is a IB Faunce buried in Glasgow Cem. next to a Anna Faunce. I looked for a death record and probate records, none. So I was hoping there would be some kind of land record to verify his 1st name. On Mary Faunces' death certificate his name is listed as Icabod! So this is all very confusing. I would just like to find out the name on his deeds. Thanks, Sherri Golightly Ruth Mickelson wrote: > > Sounds like you need to do some research before you can get into that type > of thing. 3. I am looking for someone who has access to the 1870 Iowa Census index [NOT FTM - not worth the plastic its enscribed on]. Since Delores Davises E-Mail [she was a lookup volunteer in Jefferson County] bounces I can't find another source for that Census. Here's what I need. [My local library and Main Libraies in the State don't have those volumes.] Can you check to see if any Library has the Iowa Census Index for 1870. I am looking for two Families, GANDY and ST CLAIR. maybe spelled STCLAIR. My Great Grand Father Thomas Iles St Clair Died there 0n 4/25/1868 and is buried at the Jackson Cemetery, Salt Creek Twp, Davis County. Were not sure if the Families left there before 1870 and went on west to York County Nebraska [I'm checking there as well]. But if any of them appear on the 1870 Census w'ell know. Thomas had two Sons John Abraham and Thomas Jefferson. His three daughters were there as well Eva-Rachel's sister Thirza was married to William Harrison GANDY and Sarah to Samuel Ellis GANDY. If any one has the index and can check for me it will be greatly appreciated. Our Library in Milwaukee does not have that year. Thanks in Advance Bob Stevens

    1. Re: [IADAVIS-L] Elizabeth Marcus
    2. Wanda, Thanks for your response. it may give me further avenues to check. While these may not be directly connected to Elizabeth Marcus, it is possible that they are connected to the Ferguson whom she married. >From taped conversations I have of my grandfather, Ezra Boal (now deceased), it seems that after the death of husband Daniel Small, upon Elizabeth's remarriage (to __ Ferguson?) she and her husband resided in Missouri. It is unlikely that they ever returned to Davis County, IA as there was a dispute over daughter Venda, who was 11 yrs old. The dispute resulted in her grandparents, John Small and Nancy Kilgore bringing their granddaughter Venda back to Davis County, IA from Missouri, where she was then raised and where she married my great-grandfather Delmore D. Boal in 1881. Under the ill-feelings of the time it is unlikely that Elizabeth and her husband returned to Davis County. Thanks again. 1. [IADAVIS-L] Elizabeth Marcus
    2. Hi Davis County, IA researchers, I am now trying to find out more about Elizabeth Marcus and her ancestors. She was probably born around or after 1831. My g-gf was Delmore D Boal (b. 1851 in Elmwood, Knox Co, IL) m. 1881in Davis Co, IA Venda Small (granddaughter of John Small b. 1812, and Nancy Kilgore b. 1807 - first wife of Davis Co, IA) b. 1857 was the daughter of Daniel Small b. 1831, in IN, who was in the Civil War in Youngs Point, LA where he died of Small Pox in 1863. According to my recently located marriage record of Delmore Boal and Venda Small -her parents were Daniel Small b. 1831 d. 1863 m. abt 1856 and Elizabeth Marcus.Elizabeth Marcus may have remarried a man named Ferguson after Daniel Small's death. She moved to MO after Daniel Small's death. I think I may have seen some postings on this listserv for MARCUS in the past so I am hopeful that whomever posted is still reading msgs here or that someone else on the listserv can help. Thank you.
