Hello Mildred, I just don't know if we have connection or not. The only Mowery connection I can find in the Iowa Census that even remotely matches mine is in Bloomfield Township in the Davis CO. IA census of 1860. The family is listed as Mowrer: MOWRER John 45 farmer France Anna 42 France James 16 France John 14 France Anna 12 France Christian 10 France Matty 4 (mo.??) Iowa My Mowery family lived in the Bloomfield area for many years as well as in Eldon, Iowa later on. Now, in Van Buren CO. in Jackson Township in the Iowa 1860 census there is a Sarah Mowery from KY. MOWERY Sarah 49 KY Wiley 21 farmer Indiana Don't know if this has helped you or not but I will be on the look out now for William and the Giles/Glasgow family. Nancy
we need service ideas for out youth group, and parents. I thought that it would be good to go to some of these country cemeteries and chart them with the names and dates. How would we find out the ones that need this done? We live in the Fort dodge area, but could go on a Saturday to out lining areas. Webster Co., doesn't even have a Gen web sight. Any ideas?
I have a William N. MOWERY (born about 1851 KY) married to Mary Frances WARD (born about 1853 MO). They had a son Marvin Orion MOWERY (born 1873 Gentry Co., MO) who married Nora A. GLASGOW (born abt 1873 IA) in 1893. Her parents, James Owen GLASGOW and America Ellen GILES, lived in Davis Co., IA until about 1878, when they moved to Osborne Co., KS. James had been born in Adams Co., OH, and America was born in Davis Co., IA. Do you think my William and your John could have been brothers? Hi. Could someone in Davis County who has access to the newspaper microfilm of the county please do an obituary lookup for me for Robert A. MARTIN, b. 1842, died 25 Feb 1934. The newspaper he may be listed in would be the Bloomfield Republican (or Democrat). I believe the Davis County Genealogical Society may have the obituaries if you contact them. I don't have their address but am sure that you can find it on the web. Hope this helps. Steve Boal On Mon, 20 Sep 1999 10:32:39 -0500 (CDT) dhackle@ix.netcom.com writes: >Good Morning. Good Morning. Is there someone on this list who might be willing to do an obituary lookup for me? I would like a copy of the obit for Winfield Scott McFarling, born in 1852 and died 23 Sept 1931 in Davis Co. He was the son of Cyrus A. McFarling, a longtime resident of Davis Co who died in 1897. He is buried in Mounts Cemetery in Marion Township-I have no idea which paper, village or county (or maybe even the Ottumwa Courier) this obituary may have been in. I would like a copy if it can be found and willing to send SASE and pay for copy costs. If anyone knows wether there may be any McFarling/McFarlands left in Davis County, I would be interested in contacting those persons for more information. If there might be an obituary for Cyrus A. McFarling, he died 18 August 1897 and is buried in Wesley Chapel Cem. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Dar at dhackle@ix.netcom.com

Nancy I have no information about your ancestors, but you might write to the following address: Eldon Christian Church Eldon, IA 52554 I no longer know the name of the preacher or the secretary, but this address will get the letter to the church. I know they have a history written up and a list of the charter members. Maybe it will give you a little information about your John and Margaret. Good luck! I am going to be in Davis County on September 29, searching for information about my gg-grandmother, Margaret A. BARKER, who came to the area from Ritchie County WV in about 1854. The 1856 census lists her with her children but her husband, Ephraim, is not listed. Her second eldest daughter (my g-grandmother, Melissa) was located alone in Cainsville, Harrison Co., Missouri on the 1860 census, and married there, but as for her mother, I can find no record of her after 1856. Is there someone who is either a member of a local Davis County genealogy society or someone with local knowledge whom I could make arrangements to meet September 29, and discuss the local research facilities where I might find some record of my gg-grandmother and her other children? My time is going to be limited, but I would very much like to find something to shed light on this mystery. Thanks very much. Margaret Udell Concord CA udell@pacbell.net
sent to Australia from England 50 years ago. Check out the story on http://www.cbs.com/flat/story_138691.html 60 Minutes presented an hour long program about the accidental discovery of the shipping of children for 2 decades from children's homes in England to institutions in Australia. The children were told they were orphans and the parents were told their children had been adopted. Now 50 to 30 years later, they are discovering this was not so! These children are not even considered to be citizens of Australia and have to go through the naturalization process to get passports to visit parents in their 80's or 90's. There is an organization set up by Margaret Humphreys (who made this discovery) that is researching and trying to connect the children with their families and to locate their birth certificates. It is called the Child Migrants Trust. The records they are using are microfiche. This is a genealogy nightmare!!!!!! I have shared this with the lists to which I belong. Please share with other lists. -- "Bureaucrats need crisis in order to survive. If there isn't a crisis of some kind, someone might decide that a number of positions could be eliminated."
