    2. Hello Everyone: We had such a wonderful chat last Thursday evening! I was so glad to see over 15 people show up. We came up with some great ideas and learned a few things. A transcript of the chat can be seen at http://iagenweb.org/state/cgi-bin/chatroom/2002jan03.htm Thank you so much to all who joined us. Our next chat will be Jan 10, same bat channel-same bat time. Please click on the chat room link on our homepage for more info. One of my goals in setting up these chats is to help those who live away from CC learn about the area and what is available to them in the way of resources and help in researching their ancestors. To that end, we will be visiting with Jan Hansen. Jan lives in Clinton and is a member of the Historical Society and other groups. She will tell us what the Historical Society gene library has to offer. She also has found a copy of a county history that was published in 1871. It's not very long, perhaps 50 pages or so. Time permitting, she may do a few look-ups or at least tell you if your surname is listed in an index she created for the book. (They are considering re-printing the history and would like to know how many might be interested in a copy. Please let me know if you're interested and I will let them know.) Another topic of interest in the Clinton county area is the merger of the courts of Clinton and Jackson county. I have been assured that this will not affect the older records or our research in any way. To learn more, please visit the "What's Available" section of our website. For those of you who have volunteered to help type and get stuff online, our next project will be the 1929 Clinton directory. Hopefully, this will act as a finding aid in the census of 1930. Granted, the whole county is not included in the directory, but it is a start. If you would like to join us in this task, please let me know. I may have found a distant cousin living in Clinton during the 1860 and 70s. Robert Bruce Hoadley was married to Harriet Sophia Rood in 1866 in Camanche. In 1878, Robert was elected mayor of Camanche. In 1879 he moved on to the greener pastures of Colorado. With my luck, he was run out of town by an angry mob, but it would make great fodder for the family history. If anyone should come across info on Robert and/or Harriet, I'd love to know more. I hope to have his family outline posted soon and my query entered on our message board sometime this weekend. Has anyone come across the Iowa State Sanitarium in Camanche? I have been trying to transcribe death records and came across the following entry: #5666 STUMBOW, Max d. 1903 Jul 10 at the Iowa State Sanitarium, Camanche. He died of TB so I would assume it was one of those places you would go when you had TB as it was so contagious. I hadn't heard of the facility and this is almost the end of the copies I have so I couldn't check for more entries of people dying at the same place. I think it would be an interesting topic to put on the website. Well, that's about it for me. I will continue to update our website and, hopefully, you will continue to visit.
