Subject: Mary Pier Russell's children Dear Jessica: Thanks to the leg up you gave me on Gideon Russell and his children, I've come a long way. I've found that, as I had guessed, Mary Pier was his first wife (can send you all the data, if you'd like) and they had 5 children, two of whom lived to be stepchildren to Emeline. I'm wondering about your source for the birth date of Fred A. Russell, whom you have as b. in Mamaroneck NY (Westchester County - I grew up near there, so am familiar with the town). That birth place seems a bit unlikely, as the other children (and I found that Mary and Gideon had five of their own) were born in Iowa, according to census records. I've been in touch with the ClintonCounty/Gateway Genealogical Society (they have a web site now according to RootsWeb) and they sent me several photocopied pages of Wolfe's History of Clinton County which has a photo of Gideon and quite a full biography (which does have a couple of mistakes in dates). Wolfe says that Fred A. Russell was a well-known author and lived in NY. Perhaps Mamaroneck was where he lived and (presumably) died (I've been checking out Contemporary Authors at my library for a speech, and I must go back to see if Fred is listed. That would be interesting to know). Anyway, if you'd like to have what I've found, I'll send it to you.
