I will pursue the VA GenWeb search engine. However, my John Thomas was born between 1813-1815 according to census records so he was too young for the marriages you suggested I look into. His wife (Mary Ann Turner) was from New Brunswick so it is unlikely his marriage occurred in Virginia. John's first daughter, Nancy, was born in Ohio, presumably on the way to Iowa. I have looked for Nancy Thomas' birth record (1837) in Ohio but have not had any luck to date. Please let me know if you have any further advice.
